Default t-top question

Can you tint t-tops cuz I called two places and they said they can't? Does anyone have their t-tops tinted?

^this. its very easy to do yourself.

when the tinting place said they couldn't do it, were you there at their shop, or were you asking over the phone? they may not have known exactly what you were asking about if you were asking over the phone.

if you were actually at the shop, and they looked at it and said they couldnt do it, then you need to find yourself a new shop with some competent workers, because t-tops can be tinted. quite a few people here have done so. i believe the tops are tempered glass. but glass nonetheless.

shades are always another solution as well

I've shattered a couple of t tops, so i'm pretty sure they're glass. Show me where i can get some that ARENT glass so i can buy them LOL

I thought about tinting mine once... But then i saw some on a camaro that had the micro dot tint on them, and i just bought those instead I hated using the t top shades

i would try tinting them yourself. you won't have to worry about cutting the tint perfectly along the edge, like you would a window.

If a shop can tint that pain-in-the-*** back window, they should be able to do square piece of glass. And I've had them done, 5%, and I still prefer to put the shades in most times.

Its not because its not glass. I have been told by several reputable tint shops that they would not tint my tops because 1) the curvature...its hard to heat shrink it properly and 2) ppl have cracked their tops after tinting bc it retains so much heat. And yes I was at the shop, not on the phone (I have had to have my t/a tinted twice...due to a cop tearing off the tint, and my truck)

If you can find a shop that will do it, then good for you. I decided just to use some 20% static cling tint to darken it up and so far havent had any issues cracking.

What curvature? There is barely any, the back window is way more curved? I've heard of a cracked t-top, but i can't convince myself it would generate enough heat to crack, unless you park next to the surface of the sun.

Go get some static-cling tint, that's what I did on my old 97 Trans Am. I found some at an Auto parts store in 5% and put it on like regular tint. To make sure the edges didn't come up, I just took some regular clear packing tape and cut it into thin strips and laid them over the edges.

normal tint is held on by adhesive where as static cling tint is held on with static electricity
