If not, what did you use, as the end result looks killer.
I just used the regular truck, van, SUV Duplicolor paint and clear...no high heat stuff. The intake shouldn't get all that hot since it's plastic so I don't really think that high heat paint is needed. Somebody back me up on that.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to maybe work on it a little tonight. Maybe start polishing the throttle body. I still need to track down a tool to get my fuel lines off to paint before I can put the intake on.

That would be a good reason to do it. After I got my intake out, it looked like I was lucky and didn't break my sending unit off. Hopefully it'll stay that way when the new intake goes in.

I have all the necessary components to paint my intake (and have had so for quite a while, just needed the time), but I had a question about one of the painting components:

I'll be painting the intake gloss black btw,

1. Adhesion promoter
2. Sandable primer (black)
3. Gloss black engine enamel
4. Clear engine enamel <<<<<<This is what I'm concerned about, as I wasn't sure how this clear enamel over previous black gloss enamel would look, and perhaps the clear you mentioned might be a better alternative.

Just a regular truck, suv clear coat rattle can by Dupicolor?

I would think you'd be fine. The clear will just add more "gloss" to your gloss black. I just used regular paint because I had read (and thought myself) that high heat paint wouldn't be necessary because the intake doesn't get that hot since it's plastic.

yeah, for some reason people think EVERY thing under the hood requires high heat paint. which is simply not the case. most of the stuff in there doesn't get very hot at all.

Sooo, when are we gonna get some moar action? get on it. round 2, i'm waiting!!!

you can paint the engine block with regular automotive paint and it will be fine. even cylinder heads are fine with regular paint, but around the exhaust ports might flake off over time.

OK...I finally got a little time to work on it some more today. Bought the crappy little "tool" to get the fuel line off, which was a PITA by the way, so I painted the connecting line between the two fuel rails. I forgot the camera so the best I could do was with my cell phone...my bad. Hopefully I'll be able to get the intake on tomorrow evening. Anyway, here's some more teaser pics.

Fuel rails resting in place here.

Close up of crossover line next to intake.

Comparison of the old to the new.

OP, I meant to ask, regarding the clear coat application, did you apply it when the color was still wet (within 10-30 min)? Or did you follow the directions on the suv, truck, and van clear coat and wait at least an hour after applying your last layer of color?
