Default 94 Spoiler Swap (whale tail to high spoiler)?

I have a 94 trans am with a whale tail spoiler but i really like the looks of the high spoilers (stock). Will I need to buy an entirely new hatch in order to make this swap?

Thanks!

the hatch will be fine, but you should probably go ahead and buy another car for that "high spoiler" ie; honda, acura, toyota, etc... hope you have thick skin.

No. You have to get a new hatch. The problem is that "whale tail" hatch's spoiler is actually a one piece molded design with the hatch itself. You'll need to buy the specific hatch meant for the bolt on trans am style spoiler. I'm in the process of trying to find one myself for my formula.

You want to go from this:

To this?

If so, you would need to swap the hatch. It's not hard and if you have a popular color from the factory (White, Red, Black) then it will be even easier since you can find one in the factory color and have it replaced in a few hours. Just make sure you have a friend helping you, those suckers are heavy!

i did the same thing on my firebird. just have to swap the whole hatch. isn't too hard, but you'll probably need two people to help align and bolt it up.

I'd like to know where you find them at. I can't find a black one anywhere remotely close to local if my life depended on it.

It's probably due to my location, in Texas these cars are a dime a dozen. There are a bunch of salvage yards dedicated to these cars here, not to mention a bunch of guys who part them out on the side.

Junkyards/craigslist. Ebay always has them in popular colors for 2-500 bucks. Craigslist has them occasionally. Or you can offer a trade. I know a few people with Trans Ams who have traded for a low rise hatch
