Default Headliner Help Needed ASAP

Ok so I pulled my headliner, peeled off the sagging stock fabric and sanded off the foam padding. But after I got most of the glue off and the foam removed I noticed how unsmooth and wrinkled the factory cardboard (or whatever it is) backing material is.

So do you guys just put the new fabric over it and simply cover up the wrinkles? I'm using seude that has no backing on it and am having second thoughts about it now that I see how rough the backing is. Or are you getting some thick fabric, glueing that down and then glueing the seude on top the the thick fabric???

I'm stuck at this point and am unsure what to do.

Please give me some help soon, I'd like to get this project almost finished up today

Thanks in advance

most just put it over the old fabric, and why did you sand down the foam? this is what gives the smooth look... id get more foam and try to wrap it again in that...

The old fabric was shot and sagging really bad and the foam was in pretty bad shape so I sanded that off.

I'll have to look around town and see what people have otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait

**** nothing is ever as easy as you think its going to be

Ok problem possibly solved, my dad has some leftover headliner material that has the foam backing so I'm going to recover my headliner with the new stuff and then glue on my seude. Hopefully that will work, or else I will have to figure out something else

My headliner is in need of attention too. I was going to rip off the material and foam and then use vinyl instead of the traditional fabric.

Only problem with that is the actual backing of the headliner is rough as hell and if you just cover that with vinyl that its going to be all wrikled up in the corners and look like **** IMHO, not trying to be a dick, but that was my orginal idea and was going to wrap the headliner backing in micro seude. But thats a no-go

The headliner idea I had won't work, it was folded up to ship and is all creased up so I'm going to try finding just foam today and try to get this project finished up

Hey:

Here is what I did when mine started hanging down.
I redone mine in thick heavy leather, but I fiberglassed over the old headliner after i removed the old material and foam.
This way the fiberglass had something to adhere to. Don't put to many layers of fiberglass cloth on it or when you go to reinstall it back in it won't flex enough to get in. After the the fiberglass cloth/resin dried hard and was cured, I test fitted the leather, trimmed it so i had a bout 3 inches all around to fold over. I then sprayed 3m super adhesive on it real good, and fitted the leather to it. I then took a roller and pushed the leather flat all around,. I then 3m super added the roof and put dynamat and heat shield up there, then reinstalled the leather headliner. My car is now quieter and cooler all summer.

Hope this helps.
