Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has seen an f-body with doors that open like a lamborghini? can anyone give me a pic of one? I know of a company that makes the hindges and everything needed to do it.
It will cost around $1,800 so I dont know if i wanna spend the money and then it look too much like an import. Anyone wanna give opinions??
If anyone can photoshop this on a black ls1 ss it would be greatly apprciated.

There is an old camaro concept car I think it was called the California Camaro back in 93 that had the type of doors you are lookin for. I have the pic on my computer but I don't have a clue what website I found them on.

I've got a picture of a Mustang with it done. Looks awesome but I remember in a conversation that someone inquired about the price and it was something like $6000-8,000.
The Mustang doors costs something like $5000+ at the time but that was almost 2 years ago.
The place that did it was Formula1 in Northridge CA...1-888-691-1414.
I don't know if they're even still in business. Give them a call. Might have a website.

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
i think the idea is awesome. Hope the hinges and everything would let the doors pop up smoothly just like a "lamborghini" as you mentioned earlier.
I would hate spending $1900 for something that would pop up in a ghetto way which would end up looking like ****. Hamann (a performance company for BMWs) offers that for a bmw and they cost $10,000 for EACH DOOR! just thought you might want to hear about this first.
let us know if you got pictures of anything related to what you plan on doing.
Also this link does work: http://www.AUTOloc.com

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
I think you're waaaay under estimating the work involved. These doors are NOT light at all and you would probably have to have alot of custom fab work done.
Alignment is key to it working and one major problem you would have to overcome is that the doors would have to swing out a little bit before they lift to clear the t-tops or the roofline. Even if you get that to work, getting a water tight seal when they close will be very tricky.
Weight is also an issue. The pneumatics may work fine but the front door frame would probably have to be reinforced to prevent the hinges from ripping out otherwise we may be reading about your homemade guillotine. chop chop
Not sure about this but depending how the door pivots, you may run into problems with the top front corner of the door and the side mirrors clearancing the fender. You can't just rotate a rectangle out of a fitted rectangular space without something hitting something else.
Don't get me wrong, if you could do this for less than $2k, I would probably be one of the next ones in line to do it but it's definitely not going to be a bolt on kit if that's what you're hoping for.

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
Look at the pictures of the Mustang I posted in the link above.
If the kit has a very quick rotation OUT before it starts to lift then you may not have too much extra work involved but I think you'd definitely have some frame reinforcing involved.
Doors falling off=Not Good
Doors falling off on legs=Very Very Not Good

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
here is the car Weasel was referring to in the still picks above. Cobra remote doors. Formula 1 can duplicate it, at the cost of $5K for each door. Those featured by the Mustang open by keyless remote and small hydraulics. They still retain their factory original ability to open outward as well after the conversion.
Most places that are capable of doing this aside from the previously mentioned Formula1 have quoted anywhere from $5K - $15k. Depending on what you have done (ie. shave door handles, are the doors power, open by remote, repaint, etc). Camarocasanova of CamaroZ28.com I believe had over couple 100 man hours involved in making his suicide doors. Labor is going to kill in a project like this if you want it done right.
One company I e-mailed said they have sold their vertical opening hinge kits (which still have to be cut and modifed to the vehicle it's going on) to some Camaro owners. But I have yet to see any real pictures of one of these cars yet.

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
FYI their called suicide doors. If your wondering how they got that name is because if you get in a wreck you cant get out. Reason being is if the doors swung out you could kick em out, but since they go up that makes kicking em out wards kinda hard since the hinges dont go that way.

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
5K - 15 K? lets see supercharger or doors? nah supercharger LMAO
hell for 15K might as well get the 7.0 super stroker package which would be a 550+ hp viper killer.
15,000 is half of the price of a NEW SS man!! it would sound stupid if people know you got your car for 30K and bought doors for 15K dont you think? (even though you said between 5-15K )thats still way too much BUT i might look it into if it was for a reasonable price.

Re: Lamborghini doors?can anyone photshop this
The above conversion still opens like normal if need be, so if an accident did occur I doubt getting out would be a problem with them. Considering the built quality of our cars, I doubt much would survive in a wreck violent enough to cause doors to jam. As far as paying $30K for a 4th Gen. F-body that is not a LT4 production, 1 of 1 ZL1 signed by Dale Earnhart or something setting it aside from every other one produced. I don't know that I would be admiting to that either. Besides, someone who can afford to spend up to $15k on doors is most likely to have something to match under the hood
Actually, these are what are typically referred to as "true" suicide doors.
