Cool I got a new daily driver...big buffing project ahead!

It has been a little over a year since I sold my '99 SS, I've had a few cars since then, '04 GTO & '06 Subaru Legacy GT. I never really thought I'd go back to a F body. I wanted something very affordable that I could drive every day & still have fun with.

I picked up a '99 Formula tonight, black, hard top, A4, cloth interior, stock-plus a K&N fipk, 85k on the clock. The paint has seen better days, car runs perfect, everything works & the interior looks like new.

I just got home from the 2 hour drive picking it up, pulled it straight in the garage & grabbed the PC.

I wanted to see what 15-20 minutes of experimenting would do, so I taped off half of the spoiler & let it rip.

I used a combination of pads & compounds, just to see what was going to bring it back the best.

Here are the results, I'm not great & shooting photos, but this is what I came up with.

I plan on doing the car about 1 panel at a time, due to how much time it is going to take. I will keep this thread updated with progress pics.

Sorry, no whole car shots yet, it is just a stock looking Firebird any way.

Thanks everyone!

Andy-I get bored quick, so who knows how long it will be around. I don't plan on doing performance mods to it, I just want to make it look good. The other project is plenty of $ going to go fast parts.

Famous last words! You will have to do some mods to it.

What kind of compounds and such did you use if you don't mind saying? My parent's have a black 540i, and while it's a very nice car the paint looks like *** in the sun IMO (swirls, scuffs, etc.).

I started with 1 pass of 3m compound on a yellow pad & M105 on the yellow, it was doing OK.

I tried a mix of 3m & M105 on a Surbuf pad for 1 pass, big improvement. Went back over it with Menzerna SIP on a orange pad & some polish/compound from a local supplier on the orange pad.

Did a little buffing tonight, as well as test fitted some wheels. Fail on the wheels, but the buffing is coming along good.

Fender before...

Fender after...
