Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
Can someone show me where it says SLP is only liable to replace the wheels if they damage in ONLY on the outside of the wheel? I cant find it in my warranty information
Seems I have all this damage - yet SLP doesnt think they should replace them under warranty
Tell me what you think? I see the damage - you? Its even worse in person. Crappy camera.

Those who know me, know how **** I am when it comes to detailing my car and in particular my wheels - this damage occured in one months time of normal everyday driving.
Some of what looks like glare or reflection (particularly in Pic #1 and #3) is ACTUALLY bare spots where the white undercoating is coming through because the chrome has come off.
You can easily see the areas of blistering and pitting. This blistering is so flakey - that regular water from my hose would pull the chrome off the wheel.
But SLP doenst think should be covered
Just keep this in mind if you plan to be dealing with them in the future in the replacement of your wheels due to pitting, spotting, etc or you plan on buying new wheels from them
They have comepletely lost my business.

Man sorry to hear this. I have the SLP chromed WS-6 wheels and they told me there was a 3 year warrenty on the chrome finish, no stipulations on inside or out. The WS-6 wheels are only chromed outside though, painted inside. Dont worry though, if it looks like this in that short of time, it will spread to the outer wheel before the warrenty is up. I would call and give them some more hell though, there was obviously a screw-up in the plating process. Is it just one wheel?

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
I saw this over at SLP.. Didnt Dave work this out with you offline??
I dont see anywhere in my papers either where it only covers the outside of the wheel.. and I can understand why you would be upset since I care for the inside of my wheels like I do the outside.. then again Im nuts..
Im sure there are two sides to every story but if you feel wronged and that SLP is breaking their warranty contract then take them to small claims court.. it cost almost nothing. Or try the BBB. While posting here is good therapy it wont do much for getting your wheels taken care of
Oh the whole rim IS chromed.. just the outside is polished though.. If you cant get it fixed by SLP then take the rims to a good powder paint shop and have the insides powder painted.. at least it would look good.. Sorry for your troubles

Nope - Dave and I didnt work anything out over email. They are still screwing me. And while it may be good therapy, I surely dont feel any better.
Small claims court is definately a possibility but it is unfortunate that I would have to do such as thing.
I just posted this so people can be prepared when it comes to dealing with them - especially on bog dollar items. It has been no secret that they have had problems with them peeling but now they seem to be dancing around doing the right thing
Just keep it in mind when dropping the big $$$ on something with them.

The sad thing about this is that it's common practice by them, it doesn't suprize me one bit. They can't even paint the SS hood right, so how would they chrome a wheel right? Good luck & you made a smart choice in not doing business with them.

Ive always though $999 was a CRAZY amount to charge for the chrome rim upgrade on the SS's.. You pay them $999 for chrome rims and they KEEP your stock painted rims and sell them for $400 or more.. so its $1400 for chrome rims when you think of it!! SLP justifies this by saying you get a "3 year 36k miles warranty on the wheels" while this is a good warranty its not worth JACK if they fight to not honor it
When I bought my chrom Z06 wheels from Xtreeme and one had a problem (chrome peeling on the INSIDE of the wheel).. they shipped me a new one.. no hassles at all..
Dave reads these threads so he is more than welcome to post his side of the story but from what YOU have said I vote for small claims court.

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
I assume these are the Firehawk rims. I almost bought a set when Tbyrne had that killer sale.
I settled on the Y2K chrome 18's for a better price.
It clearly looks like the rims are defective.
Any time there are bubbles in chrome plating it usually can be pinpointed back to the surface prep or lack of it. They should at least take them back for inspection, but once again it looks pretty clear. I would try the dealer or the GM toll free service line and explain to them what happened. This problem seems to creep up time to time for these rims.

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
Steve hit the nail right on the head...I feel like such an idiot for ordering my SS with the chrome ZR-1s when they don't even give you the wheels that were originally on the car...(would be great for DRs)....SLP should give all of those who ordered the ZR1s with the car wheels as a final appreciation for the f-body owners out there....I should have saved my money and bought the wheels from them the day I got my car...Anyway, I hear you man, I went to the dealer about my 5 stars, because they are noticeably fading, and have a whole bunch of rough spots...almost like bare metal. Went to the dealer, and they said it's just common street thrash, and they wouldn't go through SLP to cover the wheels.....All I use to clean them is soap and water too ....SLP.....shady shady....I'd say keep fighting for all of those that don't have our 10 spokes!!!!

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
They were new SS wheels (new style)... like in LS1 Motorsports' banner to the right on this board.
What it boils down to... SLP is screwing Will on these obvious defective wheels... but this kind of customer service is evident on SLP's own board.

Have you tried a dealer? I called SLP when my wheels factory chrome 10's were starting to do what yours are doing (outside too). They would not do a thing for me - said it was up to the dealer. After fighting with 4 different dealers, I finally found one to replace all 4 with brand new ones, no questions asked. All other dealers wanted to send them out to be rechromed, but they were pitted - not just peeling. My car was under warranty, I don't know if yours is. I promptly sold the new set and my car has been up on half a dozen jackstands since.

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
I posted a couple of questions at the SLP board but the thread has been locked/moved, so I didn't get to check for replies. Do you have any pictures from the outside of the rim? Is it peeling or just stained? Have you had a chrome shop look at it? I thought only the face was chromed, but Steve already posted that it's the whole rim.
You should have never posted the story of how you loaned your friend the rims. SLP can now say that he either cleaned them with some sort of abrasive, or otherwise ruined them. People forget that the SLP forums belong to a corporation, a corporation that protetcs itself and it's interests....

New and Improved Pics of the Damage!
Thanks Ron (TransAmaniac) for hosting these for me. Here is the main folder.
http://www.fototime.com/inv/E4FC76C0DEEE37A
Here is a couple of the pics in there:

There are a couple of them that do show some pitting on the outside. Wonder what SLP will say about these pics? Enough proof of damage yet?

Just one more reason SLP SUCKS!!!!!!
Who care's if Dave views these posts I hope GM looks in here.
GM please don't let SLP screw up any of the future
car lines. SS is a great brand it doesn't need the low quality and bad press SLP brings.

What is funny is this is not suprising to a lot of people, goes to show you the type of company SLP is.
I second Xtreme for buying replica wheels, they have great customer service.

Sorry to hear about your rims... take SLP to court and get your money back. Find your warranty and sue them for breach of contract.

Nice to see how quick you people jump, when you don't know the whole story.
After Hannibal sent us the pics of the wheel face this morning (As I requested a few days ago), we decided to warranty his wheels - but based on the face only.
It's also nice to see that Will was very quick to jump on every board when he had a problem, but now that he was emailed more than a few hours ago notifying him about the warranty coverage, that he hasn't even made a return post yet...
Get all of the facts before you slam a sponsor people...

Re: Be weary - SLP wont honor wheel warranty!
I learned that the inside of the wheel that is totally seen from standing distance of the wheel is not covered am I correct on this? If I am thats sad that someones work would be of such poor quality that they wouldnt stand behind that also.

I was hoping you would respond to this.. and its a good example of how there are two sides to every story..
Im glad the wheels are getting taken care of and I would expect Hannibal to post on here about how SLP ended up taking care of it.. So the moral is to work with the vendor until your SURE you will not get satisfaction.. then if you still feel wronged take them to court and post how they "screwed you".. Sometimes we are all a bit quick to post up (myself included) about a problem without giving it due time to work out. I imagine this dosent make the companies we deal with anxious to help..
I will leave this open so Hannibal can post.. unless you have something to contribute to this post that is DIRECTLY related please keep off. If it is related then keep it civil
I would be curious though if all/most wheel companies would have the same policy on the warranty of the inside/outside of the wheel.. hmmm
Thanks for posting Dave..
