Default Rate my car wash "kit"

My Trans Am is the first car that I've really cared about it's appearance. All my previous vehicles were rusty beaters that I washed with dawn and an old bucket.

So I've put together a cleaning kit. Everything is going to be from Advance Auto Parts since they have some killer coupons when ordering online right now ($75 off!).

Some of this is obviously not the best of the best but most of it is decent for the price.

Hardware:

Mothers powerball mini (for wheels only)
12 quart bucket x2
20" long handled brush
Lug nut brush
Scotts towels in a box
Craftsman leaf blower

Cleaners, etc.:

Lexol leather conditioner spray
Lexol leather cleaner spray
Mothers mag and aluminum polish (others available)
Mothers or Meguiars clay bar kit (which one is better?)
Meguiars car wash shampoo & conditioner (others available)
Meguiars hot shine tire spray (others available)

I already have glass cleaner and Lexol plastic/rubber conditioner for the interior.

Still looking for a good wax/polish/sealant, applicator pads, and microfiber towels. I'll probably order them later on Amazon.

Best way to test the stuff if you can would be to take a blank CD and use the stuff on there and see if it scratches it, if it does, then it's a no-go. But since your ordering the stuff online then that could poss a problem. I know some Micro-Fibers can also cause scratches instead of helping prevent them. If your windows are tinted, stay away from stuff like Windex. The amonia will in Windex is not good for the tint.

I think what you have for windows is good for them.

Yeah becareful of those micros, they do scratch,I used to buy my stuff from advance etc,but I just order off the internet now, also a grit guard for your bucket or buckets, there is way better stuff online trust me,I have worked at a detail shop part time for the past 3 winters, there are products that cost about the same or a lil more that will work a lot better, and also be easier to use,do a lil research on what some pros use, and when you find something you like stick with it because there is a lot of junk out there

The Lexol(s) you have listed are good but get the cleaner/conditioner if they list it; that'll save a few bucks if you only buy one bottle that does both. Also, I hate Turtlewax ice products except the Ice wash. Hands down the best wash I've used. Gold class is fine, but I prefer ice. Good luck man, you're on the right track as far as off-the-shelf stuff goes.

While the advice on the Microfibers are good...but, be sure you're using some sort of lubricant or Quick Detailer along with them.

Do you guys ever use a dry Microfiber when wiping down a car or removing product from a car? I sure hope not. So the same applies when doing the "CD test".

Either way, just be sure to get a quality car wash soap like the ones you mentioned, a good wash mitt, and as for the choice of clay bar, I like Clay Magic along with Meguiars. The mothers clay I felt was a little more milder than the aforementioned ones.

Be sure to pick up some waffle weave drying towells as well.

For trim and interior pieces the Mr. Clean work great.

I would stick to clay bar for the painted surfaces.

Ok, finishing off my kit, i'm about to get the rest of this stuff from Amazon:

Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0
Turtle Wax Ice, Liquid
Zwipes microfiber towels 12pk
Mothers ultra soft microfiber quick detail towel x2 (for removing stuff and buffing)
Meguiar's microfiber wash mitt.

I think i've spent enough money for now. One day, hopefully it'll stop raining!

Holy ****! A light just went on in my head. I have a pack of those under my kitchen sink that don't get used in the house...I never thought to try em on the car.
