Default Removing side trim from a red firebird..

Alright, here's the deal. I want to remove the side moldings and "Formula" logos off my 98 formula but I'm worried about the paint being different colors. Anyone taken the moldings off of theirs this late and not had different colors without the car being a garage queen? If the red is a bit different underneath, any way to correct that easily?

Shouldn't be that bad. My car was white, so I prolly had less to worry about. If you really wanna do it and aren't sure, just take care when you remove them. I'm sure they can be reused if the paint is faded.

I removed them off my red Ws-6 a few weeks ago and had no problems my paint has not faded however.

I think you will be ok you can always take the one on the rear quarter off first and if its different then re apply it.

I still need to remove the Trans am but i will do that at a later date

Mine was faded as hell when I took it off and some of the clear coat was peeling too... still need to get that fixed. Either way, its not that noticeable.

My LT1 is far from a garage queen, sadly i don't think it's ever been in a garage . Aside from that, I'd say about 4 years ago i took my trim off and there was no fading of paint. As of now, GM's wonderful clear coat is starting to peel off and there is still no hint that my car had side moldings.

Had the body shop pull mine off last fall when I had it in for some other paint work. Paint was mint underneath and no different from the rest of the car... DO IT!

i didn't even use fishing line. I used a hair dryer to heat up one end and moved it up and down until it came loose, then I just pulled off VERY SLOWLY while heating as I went.

You just had the car repainted... If they didn't take them off before repainting then it will not match at all...

$5 says you pull off the molding on the driver door and fender and the paint under doesn't match, assuming they don't pull the molding before paint and reinstall after paint. Ask them if they took the moldings off or not before painting the pieces and explain why.
