Default Paging Steve2000SS

Steve... I emailed you a couple weeks ago (via the SLP board) about a cost efficient aftermarket sway bar setup for our cars that you suggested a while ago. I was wondering if you could tell me about the setup again, including costs, part #'s etc... thanks!

To be honest a sig is ONLY supposed to be 5 lines. FYI.

Cost effective and good looking sway bars are the units from BMR. Both are solid, 32mm front and 21mm rear.

"If you are looking for increased cornering capabilities with decreased body roll, BMR sway bars are the answer. These bars are 32mm front(solid) and 21mm rear(solid) to replace the factory 30mm(hollow) and 19mm sizes and add stability to the F-Body platform. Made from cold formed steel to better resist torsional fatigue and retain their "memory" far longer than conventional hot formed bars. This front bar is over 40% more rigid than the popular 1LE swaybar. All packages come with Prothane mounting bushings and endlink kits."

Mhop:

Dont feel bad.. they razzed me about my sig also

I run the 21mm GM bar in the back and the 35mm GM bar in the front.. the 21mm bar ran me $45 or so from GM parts Direct.. the 35 came with the car (SLP Bilstein option).. I couldnt find the part numbers anywhere.. anyone else have them?

For bushings I called Energy Suspensions.. make sure you get the 35mm front and not the more common 32mm front.. or just run the 32mm front bar.

Hope this helps some..

How's the BMR expensive???

$149, includes the bar, bushings and endlinks.

The setup described:

$45 for the Bar
$13 for Bushings - Prothane Poly
$30 for Endlinks - Prothane Poly
-----------
$88 total for a ugly unfinished hollow sway bar

None of the above costs include shipping.

It would cost WAY more than $61 to powder coat a sway bar.

Just my 2 cents,

BTW, you can buy Energy Suspension bushings and endlinks fron AutoZone.

In a way Andy is right.. if I was going to buy both bars I would most likely get the BMR.. but I already had the front 35mm bar so getting the front BMR was not a sound idea.. From a "less hassle" standpoint BMR makes sense.. if you dont care what they look like the GM option is quite a bit cheaper..

I think Andy is hight though on the cost of powder painting. My powder painting place would do both bars for $40 (in whatever color you want).. That is thier minimum charge.. So you could probley toss in a few more items for about the same cost.. or you could have them done in a common color (go in with another batch) and have them done for less than $40.. thats why i love powder paint.. its cheap I had my timing cover and fuel rail done in thier common red for $25!! (evil twin of fluffy)

Good luck

Andy, as of right now, I don't have any aftermarket sway bars on my car, the entire setup for BMR is $280 for front and rear. If I could get away with a setup that is just as efficeint butr doesn't look as good for 100 bucks less, I would much rather go with the cheaper alternative because for my personal use, its under the car and doesn't matter if it looks sharp or not.

Now when it comes to you two guys, I know quality and apperance for those parts that are barely ever seen are still right up there with their performance.

On another note, how's the Berger? This midwest weather sucks huh? I'm probably gonna take my car out of storage this weekend, and Steve, no warm weather cali comments please

Steven that was the setup I was talking about... I thought about going with the BMR but it seemed a little expensive compared to the alternative you offered... I'll try and find those part #'s Do you have the contact info for energy suspension? I wanna get the bushings ordered at least, thanks!

The Berger is just fine. I am anxiously awaiting to drive it again. Haven't touched the car since Novemeber. Weather, yes it blows, but heck it is expected. I had my Red SS out for a little while 2 weekends ago, such a great feeling!
