Rear Tint..How Many Pieces did it take for yours?
now that spring seems to be arrving here in MN.. Its time to do a few things to the car pretty soon, I am going to be getting tinted..I have heard that its very difficult to do the rear window of our cars due to the curves and that it most times can not be done with one continuous strip of tint..that they have to use 2 or 3 to do it correctly..does this look any different? Is there more of a chance of it peeling up or having defects sooner?

They used three pieces on mine, some places carry large pieces of tint so they can do it in one. If they are good you can not tell the difference. Just make sure they use the three pieces horizantal not vertical. Horizantaly lets the cuts blend with the rear defrost lines.

1 piece.. then we removed the tint from the dotted area and mased the area around it off.. Then we painted it (spray).. looks great..
Good luck with the tint and make sure you go to a GOOD place

mine was done with 1 piece, and a strip of black vinyl over the dots. a good shop will know how to overcome this situation, remember thier rep is based on how your car looks!

Go to a place that can do it one piece. Multiple pieces are more prone to peeling in any spot over time than a one piece.

If the shop can't do an F-body rear window in one piece, I wouldn't take any of my cars there. It's really not that hard. I think it's easier than using multiple pieces

Like others have said, if they can't do it in one piece go somewhere else.
As far as tinting the windshield, I would reconsider. I know insurance who have voided coverage if tint was found on the windshield. Not worth the risk IMO

I went with 15% on back and sides. The tint shop I went to recommended that it be installed in 2pc because 1pc sometimes tends to pull at the edges. They said it not me. A good tint shop should be able to put the seam right over one of your rear defroster lines if you have them. I would advise doing something with the dots on top, ie paint or solid black. I didnt and it cost me 2 hrs with my fingernail and a hair dryer to get it looking respectable. Good luck!

Up here in good ol' Michigan all of the places will do it with 1 or 2. The single piece is around 30 bucks more, but WELL worth it. On my friends Z they used two pieces, and the seam was about 3/4 of the way down the back window, and it went against the grain of the defroster lines. Very tacky. Go with the 1 piece if possible.
