Default FUDGE!!! Paint not sticking on caliper!!

I'm having a problem with the paint not sticking. I sanded the casting marks off the caliper with a dremel and sanded it down using 60 grit. Yes, 60 grit. It worked fine on the caliper mount thingee but the caliper itself is "bubbling" on the right side. I don't get it. I even sprayed on some adhesion promoter and again, the caliper mount thing came out perfect. Anyone with some insight??!!

Bubbling usually indicates there was something oil-based or greasy chemical on the surface. Re-sand, clean with some paint thinner, and wipe with a tack cloth... then paint

Wear rubber gloves oil from your fingers will cause the bubbling. Agree with the two above clean with lacquer thinner first then sand then clean again and paint

Dammit, I give up! Before I came back on here to read your responses I sanded it back down and resprayed and I got the same crap going on! So since I sanded it back down, could it really be still a grease thing?

Yes, sounds like a grease/dirt/etc issue. Strip to bare metal and clean very well! Since the caliper is cast, it could even be oil embed in the metal. There are primers out there that are more forgiving to oil and grease than others.

Yea, I don't know what to do. I sanded it down and lightly tacked on some adhesion promoter. Still didn't work. Imma try it one more time.

Id skip the adhesion stuff. Just sand, degrease, and use a primer.

On my beater car I used a wire wheel on an air grinder to knock off the crap. I then sprayed brake cleaner on it and wiped it clean. Worked like a charm and was super quick.

Thanks, the primer did the trick and the base coat is laying down nicely. Thanks!
