Default Fishing line NO-NO!!

Just wanted to let everyone know, DO NOT use fishing line when removing the side molding off your car. It will leave little colorless scratches in the clear coat under the molding.

That being said, after I stopped using fishing line, this is one of the best appearance mods I have done to the car so far

I used fishing line to remove my side molding.. No issues at all.. Just have to make sure you are pulling away from the car while sawing.. I just cleaned the tape off the car after done..

This. You don't hold it towards the paint, you pull away. I really didn't even touch the paint with mine. I started on the part of the tape that contacted the molding. Then remove the tape after like said above.

Having said that it is great and free appearance mod

The kind used in fishing rods?? haha. Well whenever I tried to pull away from the car, the line was cutting into the trim and wouldn't go anywhere. I only used it on one small piece of the molding before realizing today's 93 degree weather was on my side. Just pulled the molding right off, soaked the tape in goo gone, and pulled it off. On two pieces I got lucky and the tape came off with the molding.

If I remember right (it's been a long time), I used a hair dryer and heated the side molding up. Slowly pulling and heating it until I had it all off.

Hell it was so hot today, I didn't even need it. I am going to have to get some compound on it tomorrow though, the passenger door has a line down it from where the trim was. IDK if it's adhesive or dirt or whatever but I can feel it raised above the pain, just refuses to come off.

Before using compound I would try washing with dawn dish soap. That, along with a clay bar worked at getting those stubborn dirt spots off when I did mine.

Sounds silly, but I'm here in Italy and couldn't find fishing line. So I use dental floss instead. Yea I had to use a few pieces because it would eventually break but it all ce off clean, I think the wax coating helped haha
