Anything special I need to know caring for a single stage paint? Wanting to polish my wife's daily driver '05 Toyota 4Runner. I've got some Blackfire Wet Diamond on the way for a sealant but I'm trying to figure out a good polish. Paint isn't in horrible shape but does have a few light scratches and swirls.

I bought your recommended list from autogeek except for the wash mitt, out of stock.

Thanks.
Meguiars 205 and 80 both work great on single stage paint. Just remember you will get paint transfer onto the pads, so clean them frequently.

What color is her 4Runner? White? Single stage paint is typically softer than basecoat/clearcoat, so you typically don't need to get as aggressive with it. If you need more cut, pick up the Megs MF cutting discs and D300, then finish with 205.

Black.

What kind of cleaner do you recommend using on the pads? I'm not sure if I missed it or not but don't remember reading it.

Are you sure its single stage? I've done a few and the only single stage was in white and red (but the red was an older model).

Dawn in the spray bottle (bought at any grocery store) is really good. 2-3 sprays and agitate it by hand under warm water. Compress it to remove the majority of water. Then spin dry it on your buffer.

No I'm not sure but I googled it and from what I read it seems that only white isn't cleared. If it is cleared what products would you recommend for Toyota clear coat? Is it as hard or softer than what comes on the 4th gens?

I don't do a lot of toyotas, but from the ones I have corrected that are base/clear I would put them somewhere in the middle. The same product will work well on it, with the exception of Megs #80. I'd stick to 105/205 and D300 with the MF cutting disc then finish with foam pad with 205. If you REALLY want it to pop, then follow the last step with Menzerna 85RD on a black LC pad.

And I polished my tips with steel wool and adams metal polish but there is like a brown residue on the tips still. Do you think the carbon just sat on there too long?

Try Mother's Chrome polish with #0000 steel wool.
