The Proper Cleaning of the LSx engine bay..
- Your motor must be COOL TO THE TOUCH
- Cover your PCM, Fuse Box, MAF/TB and Battery
- Rinse your motor with lower pressure water, be careful of the KNOCK SENSORS
- Apply what ever degresser you choose
- Let the degresser stand for about 15 mins
- Rinse your motor again with low pressure water, make sure you get all the degresser off. But again be careful of the KNOCK SENSORS
- Use 2 gallons of distilled water, this will ensure no water spots will be left behind
- Remove all necessary items you used to cover your PCM, Fuse Box, MAF/TB and Battery
- Dry your motor; whether it be by towel, leaf blower or comressed air
- Start car, let idle for about 20 mins to get nice and hot, also go for a cruise to get all the water out of tight spots.. Hint, go WOT

- Detail the car with what ever you choose
That should just about do it... Good Luck and keep that motor
Water can (and probably will) get UNDER the intake manifold. The knock sensors are located there and sit in pockets. When water gets in those pockets it has NO PLACE to go except to evaporate. If it doesn't evaporate it will destroy the knock sensors.
If you have a bad knock sensor do a search for the GM TSB on a sort of "fix" for the water problem. If you need any more info on this, PM me and I'll be glad to share (I have pictures, too).
Other than that, cleaning the engine bay is a snap.

WHAT WHAT WHAAT is a knock sensor and where is it? annnd what is a PCM!? where do I find it and what do you recommend covering it with?

Do you feel better now?

Knock sensor is on the driver side of the block.
A simple search will reveal these items, even a google search
1. Wait for the car to cool( so I clean the rest of the car)
2. Take a bucket and I use the same car wash soap.
3. use the "mist" setting on the water hose.
4. use a rag and toothbrush(prefer the wife's haa) combination to get everything out.
5. let it sun dry (I also start the way with the hood open) I don't have a fancy compressor or leaf blower..
6. I prefer a light coat of WD-40, and wipe everything down(it also repels water) and once it dries it gives a "new" shine to plastic and rubber + it prevents rust..
You guys above got it covered tho..
Could we get some more before and after pictures?

Looks good, after doing motor mounts and seeing how nasty it was down there, I'll be doing this the next time it's warm out.
