Default Need help identifying my hood

Hello LS1Tech community,

I've been a lurker here for quite some time, and have finally *officially* made an account. I've had my '00 T-top for almost 2 years now, and it's been a great ride!

However...

my &*$^%& #$%^& body shop has Broken my carbon fiber hood, and after months of piddling around with it, has told me I should just look for a new hood.

The thing is, my hood is one of the reasons why I bought the car I did. I think its the bomb, and don't want to replace it with a more generic fiberglass/CF hood.

Have no idea who made it, if it's custom or not, etc. Just know that If I am forced to replace it, I'd like to get the same - or something quite similar.

Any help/advice on identifying this hood, or a similar replacement, would be greatly appreciated.

Shout out to 71-camaro-98; you have a sweet ride, and currently if I needed to replace my hood, I'd get the model you have.

Thanks for yalls time on this.

After a little research (and luck), it seems to have been made by a company called ViS. Here is the same style, made for a c5 corvette:

www.NOT-A-SPONSOR.com.org.gov.net.edu

However, they don't list anything like it for camaros. I have emailed the company, but who knows when I will get a reply. Does anyone know if there are cars that are compatible with camaros for hood-swaps? i.e. a similar hood is offered for the subaru wrx, but i doubt it will fit the proper dimensions.

You're not going to have any luck in that. Hoods don't swap from one type car to another. Even the Firebird/TransAm which is the same chasis won't work due to differnaces in the headlights, fenders, etc.

The hood you have though I believe was called the SCT hood. It was floating around Ebay a few years back but not anymore. Only found one site that even claims to sell it now but I'm not sure i'd trust buying it from a site like that...

Its funny that some mod came through and deleted every non-sponsor link... the guy is looking for the exact hood, not one of the sponsor ones.

on a side note, how did they break it? And IMO the fitment quality on that hood is horrible.

Yeah, I was able to catch the URL's before they got changed. Thanks MeenZ28 and Andros, you've pointed me in the right direction.

My body shop has yard dogs.. big ones. they hopped on the hood and cracked it.

and yes, the hood fitment (and the trunk lid too) is horrible in that pic. That's the craigslist ad pic of when the seller had it. I had since *properly* adjusted both.

I've spoken with my shop, and I think I'll be able to get them to pay for a replacement - I'll most likely get them to order the fiberglass reinforced plastic version instead of the CF. I believe it'll be more rugged/less fragile and if i do have issues, i'll be able to work on it myself (sanding, etc) as opposed to the vastly more difficult work involved with fixing the carbon fiber.

Weird. OP couldn't find a particular hood, I found one for sale by googling. Just trying to help out a fellow LS1tech member not give someone some free advertizing. Mods seem a little paranoid lately.

I would thank the bodyshop for breaking that poor fitting hood, and ask them to buy you a nicer one that fits.

to be fair, I did search for a few minutes and found nothing. theres no name on it? mines got the name stamped on the bottom

Good dog, who's a good dog?! Sorry I couldn't help it...

I remember seeing it on ebay some time ago and yes it's by Vis. Good luck finding another one, although if I were you i would look for something that fits the car a little better..

Thanks. Yeah, the CF wasn't as easy to work with (hence why i'll be going with the FRP version), but I think this particular hood gives the car some character - My personal flavor.

And to be honest, I've always felt the more mainstream hoods with air scoops look silly, especially when it's those double-ram-air ones with the divider in the middle

same thing I was thinking. Those links did nothing to advertise any company, It was just an old site that hasn't been updated over 3 years that at least gave the OP some info on his hood. And the product wasn't even an item sold by any forum sponsors, so it's not like the link created any competition at all

mods...

That hood would keep me from purchasing that car. Holy hell. +1 to the body shop for doing all camaro owners out there a favor.
