Paint question - The Flat Black Look on cars?
Anyone have information regarding painting cars with that "flat black" or semi-gloss black look? Is the car also sprayed with clear? What kind of mainteance is required? Just like any other paint job? Did some searching online, but came up empty.

You don't have to clear coat it, but you want to make sure that you use some rust inhibitor underneath, to prevent corrosion and rusting. I guess you could coat it with flat clear, but not necessary!

Thanks guys. Any special prep you are aware of? I am considering this for my next car. Lowered Camaro painted flat black with black wheels and black tint on the windows. No shiny stuff at all. Completely !badged with an awesome stereo system and full power. Want a bad *** looking street driver that will look wicked. Course it will be hot in Texas with all that black.
Seems like that paint would be really succeptable to damage from the elements? How durable would it be?

Its more durable than regular gloss paint, it will never show swirl marks. All black on a late model Camaro might also make you look like a broke-*** that can't afford a paint job lol. I think only older cars can pull that primered look off well.
Sounds like you want a road-warrior theme car

After I get settled, I will look for an LS1 Camaro or Firebird. Nothing flashy. I just want something that is black and looks intimidating. Black with black wheels, sitting low, black tinted windows, mean exhaust note, 6-speed, and kicking stereo. Something I can drive every day with no intention of racing. We will have the shop car for racing

DO IT! I would really like to see a flat black car. How would you finish the wheels? flat powder coat. I've always had this picture of my TA in my head...with flat black paint, powdercoated ZR1's, and a little Punisher skull decal in the center of the hatch, all the way to the rear, under the spoiler. I don't have the guts to do it though.

Any car with flat black paint and flat black wheels IS a punisher...lol.
There is a bad *** House of Kolor place in Garland, I think, that you may want to look at when you get here. They do awesome custom stuff.
What about flat black with some wicked flames (semi-gloss black or something mono-chrome, yet contrasting)?
