Corroding clear coat, what from?
Corroding clear coat, what from? I've had these wheels for nearly two years and never had an issue. I use hot water and simple green to clean them. Fast forward to last week, I took my car to a dealer for some trouble shooting help. They washed it and I got this:
There is a cream color chemical affect going on around all four wheels, this being the worst. Its the clear coat peeling, corroding, and the wheels looking less than lovely.
It snows here, we get de-icer pretty good but considering I've driven through two winters without an issue. I'm suspecting the dealer put something on that corroded it.
Ideas?

I would think that if it was from the state putting de-icer down then it wouldn't be in runs down the wheel. I bet the dealer used a chemical on it. Which you would think the BMW dealer would know better

I took the car back this morning, they are going to get back with me. I've made it clear that the circumstances this happened in warrant them to find a solution considering I've never had issues. If they are willing to work with me that will be great, if not - I'll file small claims.

Verdad Gallardo It looks like it could be polished back. My neighbor used a chrome wheel cleaner on his c5 vette polished wheels. I polished them back for him. See if the dealer would pay to have that done professionally
