Default Best option to recovering 4th gen seats

Ive got a 94 t/a with the light grey leather seats with power bolsters and lumbar. Its ripped at the seams in the typical places, headrest(s) the top of the back seat and a few spots on the fronts. Ive been looking into getting them redone. My dad just dropped his car off at a convertible top place and they do wonders with fabric and do interiors as well as tops. So tomorrow when we go pick it up I'm going to ask for an estimate from him. What i really would like to know if the seat kits from hawks that sell at about 500 bucks are what they're cracked up to be, a kit that isn't seat covers but new upholstery that replaces the old leather for a factory look. Also any other places besides hawks for new seat upholstery?

If you do a search for 'seat covers' and 'how to' someone did a pretty good write up on doing it yourself.

Thanks im more interested on how they look compared to getting them recovered. I mean my dads 74 olds has covers and you just slip them over and pull a string to tighten them, but a bench seat is alot less complicated and nearly impossible to tell its a cover.

Hawks quality and customer service is top notch. I had their houndstooth seats in my old camaro and they were amazing. I recommend them to everyone looking for replacement covers

No you have to remove the factory covers first. These are complete factory replacements installed in the same manor the factory covers are.

Google "Lethal Interiors". Princess (name of the lady who makes them) does excellent work and is very helpful with giving installation tips. She just made me covers in black with houndstooth orange inserts for my Hugger Orange Z28 that look awesome. I'm in the process of installing them now. Look for pics in the interior section of this site in the very near future.

Ive seen some her work.....good stuff. Other good ones are leatherseats.com, 6LE and katskin. The latter being pretty costly though.

Thanks, the guy looked at my seats said he could soften the leather up and sew all the seams that were broken back together, and replace the typical worn out drivers side bolster, and replace the top of the back seat that is split and torn, for about 300. I understand it wont be a new interior but at least it will look decent enough. Need to save money where i can for paint.

You can also get aftermarket seats if you don't want to cover your OE seats... I was looking into just replacing both of my front seats. You can get brackets and new seats with sliders for close to $700

As kind of an aside question, does anybody know the weight of the OEM seat?
