Default 97-02 tail light swap question

Not sure if this is the correct section for this or not but I have a noob question about this swap, I recently did the 97-02 tail light swap in my 94 and I have been doing research on this and everyone is saying you have to swap the pigtails from a 97-02 car as well for the lights to light "correctly". I just used the pigtails from mine and they all plugged right into the new tail lights and didn't swap them out for the newer ones, yet I have brake lights, turn signals, back up lights, everything functions as it should I have all of the lights, why do you need to use the pigtails from the 97-02 cars? Thanks in advance for the help.

The running lights light up all of the red on 93-96 cars and in theory when you turn on the lights with the new tails, the amber part will light up as well if you dont switch over to the 97-02 pigtails.

but I may be wrong..

Yeah the amber does stay lit all the time when the lights are on, and the turn signals are tied into the brake light bulb as they were before which doesn't bother me.

That is exactly why you need the 97-02 harness to make it work correctly. Yes, your old harness will fit but it doesn't light up properly.

I see what you're saying there, I'm fine with the way the current configuration, I can live with the turn signals being tied into the brake lights as it was before, maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see it being worth the extra wiring just to have them light the same way the newer ones do.

If you're fine with it not being right, well, that's up to you.

Not sure how the LEOs feel with the ambers on all the time with the rest of the tails.

Does this mean he will never be ticketed for "failure to signal?"

LEOs will hit you for them not working. Don't ever have a beer and drive with them or have a dime bag in the car. Fix them for your own good. I did this conversion on my '96 and its not hard to do.

But your ambers are always lit as it is right now. It was a joke.

I understand what your saying I knew it was a joke, I just don't see how Id get stopped for ambers staying lit when the lights are on in the back when they're in the front as well, but, either way I'll take your word for it.

you have to know the DOT specifications on car lighting. Why do you think NO CAR FROM THE FACTORY has ambers on all the time? it's because according to DOT and the police it's illegal. Something obvious like a light being on all the time when it's not supposed to be is more visible than say someone running no catalytic converters or something hidden. Technically a car coming from the factory the way it is is the only real legal way they should be and mods can be tickets if you get a douche cop

(If i remember on the plug that is amber now there is 3 wires on the plug. Test which one is ground, which is constant and which triggers flash. If there is 3 for sure then snip off the one that's on when the lights are on. It's been forever since i did the conversion but it wasn't hard
