is this something which minus enlarging the area where the screen goes is all plug and play, or is there a lot of wiring to be done? I am very interested, just waiting to see a few installed and make sure its nothing too complicated for someone pretty basic like myself who has only wired in new speakers before as far as electronics go.

The kit comes with a connector and terminals, but you need to crimp your own wires to the terminals. The reasons for this are:
- crimping is no rocket science, but a lot of work
- a proper crimp tool is dirt cheap
- everybody has different needs, and this avoids a huge harness of unused wires
- you can choose your own colors and lengths
Now, how many do you need to wire? Don't worry, if you've installed a head unit, you can install this. The connection to the display is a 3ft cable that's pre wired.
The connector has 24 empty positions, but you just need very few to get started, the rest is optional. But you have to be diligent to wire things correctly.
The basics (8 wires)
Ignition power and ground
Two push buttons and ground
Outside temp sensor and ground
Speed sensor signal (4000 ppm at cluster)
Optional stuff:
Compass sensor (6 wires)
12V battery voltage for the clock (by default there's a button cell, so you don't need this)
Illumination input (for dimming)
LED driver output (if you want to use dimmable LEDs to illuminate something)
Boot switch for firmware updates (no longer a requirement, unless something goes wrong during a firmware install)
Stuff for future expansion:
CAN bus (2 wires)
ALDL
GPS input
Extra button input
Inside temp input
If anyone has a question, go ahead!

You can use pretty much any background graphics you like, it just needs to be scaled to 160x128 256 Colors Windows BMP...

It's never too late...
Right now I have 15 names on that list. Usually a certain percentage of people will drop out when the time comes to pay, so that doesn't mean you won't get one.
For example, we had contacted one member about being one of the betas, but he never responded. Then we selected someone else, again no response to PMs.

that really sucks, but I can do it right now if you want. I been waiting for something like this for years, I dont know if you remeber but I posted here about using a STS digital cluster as screen or an android tablet, I tried but it but the STS didnt work at all and he android table has this anoying half second delay and every time you turn the car on, you need to turn on the screen and go to the aplication and stuff... well Im not much into that so I got frustated and quit (Im more of a 3D artist so if you want a 3D logo for a loading screen Im your man hahaha...), anyway some time passed and then I saw your project and It blow my mind.
