Default Updates

Update time!

Nothing new from the betas, probably all busy with Easter ;-)

I received word today that the boards are finished and ready to be shipped! I'm very excited and I hope the quality will be what I expect. I'll email pictures when they arrive!

As for the software, I was able to work on the firmware for a few hours over the holidays, mainly the GPS code. The unit now continually searches a GPS database, and if a POI is within range, it displays a user selectable icon and optionally alerts you with a beep.

I've created a temporary icon set, but not being a gfx guru like Derek, the icons suck. ;-) But they were good enough to let me develop the code to display them.
I have yet to road test and possibly debug the database gfx connection, because I could only test them separately and run only static tests on my desk...

After that's done I'll create a PC-tool that reads a CSV coordinate file and creates the database in firmware to let you make your own POI file and connect it to the icons...

Question is if there is space behind the dial for the display. I tried to find space in an 80's Firebird cluster, and even though the IP cluster is 3 ft wide and the gauges are huge, there was actually not enough space to mount the tiny OLED in any of them! But granted, that was 40 year old technology with huge electromagnetic air core drivers, so hopefully yours has the space...

I have hopes for this one because it has a playback screen in it already. Certainly seems like the square hole would need to be opened up. Here's a pic of it in factory form.

Glad to hear to positive feedback. In regards to customizing, it will can operate in anything it will fit in so long as theres a 2000 or 4000 ppm speed sensor input available.

Default The latest...

I successfully test drove the latest firmware which includes GPS support today!

I had manually created a small "database" of 5 locations around my home, each tagged with a different icon, and lo-and-behold, as I was approaching these POIs, I was notified and the respective icons were displayed! Q'plah!

Next I need to write a Windows tool to create these databases automatically from a CSV sheet. In the meantime Derek is working on a better icon set, mine look like they were drawn by an 8-year-old.

I will also implement some auto-adjust for the clock when GPS is active.

Unfortunately my GPS-Mouse sucks and loses lock every now and then , but that is good for stress testing the firmware...

No news on the main boards, tracking says they're still on the way...

This week's progress: 4 display board sets, 4 connector boards and the first of the new circuit boards! I just flashed the boot loader, and it works fine. Next: run some tests, get enclosures, solder 3 more boards, make harnesses, etc. Still plenty of work to do...

For anyone who has windows 10 on their machine, I dl'ed win 10 on my laptop and verified everything works perfectly fine. I connected to the OLED, deleted the firmware, re-installed the firmware, splash image and background.

...now to return to windows 7. What a mess 10 is

I think Win 10 is fine, but some systems don't cleanly in-place upgrade.

Good to know it all works since my PC and my used laptop I just picked up both are on 10.

What is the compatibility issue with the 1998 models?
