Default Mini H1 Projector Cutoff Issue

Looking for some help here. I retrofit a pair of h1 mini projectors into my stock c5 headlights. Im having an issue after getting everything setup where Im seeing a double cutoff on each side.

I played around with the adjustments some but I'll finish it up this morning. The issue I'm having right now is that I seem to have a fainter cutoff line on top of the real cutoff. I kind of saw this when I was testing the projectors outside of the headlight assembly but I thought it was because I didn't have the correct bulbs and I was just pressing them into the projector and holding them in place with my hand.

I'm thinking the bi-xenon cutoff shield might be causing this but I could be wrong. I'll try and research it and figure it out. Either way they are a million times better than the output the ebay aca style lights came with stock.

I put my hand over the headlight and was able to block the second cutoff lol. I wish it was as easy as that.

Hopefully I can get the second cutoff figured out. I did the same retrofit on my 4th gen camaro headlights using the same projectors from the same ebay vendor and I didn't have this issue.

I wonder if it is something simple to fix or if i need a better quality projector like the morimoto ones.

How hard is it to get back inside the lights? I'd be inspecting the projector.

This is the reason why I stuck with Morimoto, I had heard of stories of the generics on ebay having QC issues and I didn't want to do a project twice!

Edges of the cutoff should be perfectly straight. Bulb should fit in the bowl perfectly straight. Make sure there are no imperfections in the bowl's reflective surface as that could lead to something similar also.

Sounds like a lot to look at lol. Are these things I would need to check on the morimoto brand ones also. If i can buy those and not have to worry about it Ill fork over thr cash for some.

Sux though because the first pair i bought from this vendor had no issues. I guess what can you expect for $40.

Does the output still look like that when the projectors aren't in those housings? I'm wondering if something in those housings is causing a reflection.

Yeah the output was the same when i had the projectors out and was aiming them at my garage ceiling. At that time i was holding the headlight, holding the bulb in place and touching the battery contacts lol. I kind of thought maybe it was because of the wrong bulbs and because they werent securely mounted in the projector.

Any chance the projector shield is bent forward or aft at the top?

Not sure if I open them up I think I might as well just put a better quality morimoto projector in them. For now they will do I guess.

Those mini H1 projectors are a hit or miss. If you got it from TRS, I would send it back and ask for a new one, they have great customer service. One of mine was perfect, and the other one had a weird yellow cutoff to it and wasn't blueish/purple like the other one near the cutoff. I had to mess around with it a lot to get it better.

That double cutoff can happen if the shield isn't flipped all the way up and is angled. If I were to do it over I would've used another projector.

TRS bends the tabs that the shield pivot rides on to prevent them from hanging up when using high beams. I wonder if these were not modded and are doing something like you are saying.

To me, it looks like one of the projectors is not seated at the same height as the other.

In the catfish camaro, I had the lenses off until I got the beam perfect and played with projector until it was all uniform.

You wont be sorry with TRS.

I bought B Stock and fine tuned them myself. Couldn't be happier.

Well I finally got a chance to play around with the headlights again. Thank you all for the help it was in fact the headlight lens. Can't do much about it that I can think of so for now I will just stick with this setup. Still works better than the stock headlights.

Below are a couple pics without the headlight lens in front of the projectors. I think the $40 ebay projector looks better than the $120 morimoto.

I just got to thinking, the C5 uses sealed beams... were you using the stock fluted lenses from a sealed beam? If so that would be why! Needs to be a clear lens.

No Im using the clear lens that I pulled off my ebay "aca" style projector headlights. They have a curve to them to clear the projector that comes with them originally so I guess that is what is causing the problem.

I tried placing the lens in front of the projector at different distances with pretty much the same results.

I also tried installing thr projector in the high beam location hoping it would pass the headlight lens at slightly different angle preventing the double cutoff but it does the same thing.
