Default Best brand of sound deadening material . . .

Wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this thread or in the Stereo section, so I posted it both places.

Anyways I've seen posts of people putting down sound insulation or "dynomat" in their 4th gen, trying to get a quieter ride or trying to build a monster stereo system.

Just wondering what is the best product out there. Right now my daily driver is a 2004 Tacoma regular cab, its a noisy little beast. Planning to take out the seat and carpet, lay down some sound insulation on the floor and back of the cab wall. Might also do the doors if you guys think its worth it.

The Tacoma forum I'm on is mostly a bunch of knuckle draggers with 4wd trucks, the whole mindset is how to make your truck more off-road capable, bigger tires, suspension lifts, axles, etc. Civility be damned, rip out the carpets because they're old, nasty and we are bunch of filthy, sweaty mud caked pigs when we get into our trucks

Anyways, just looking for the best product out there to cut down on the road/tire/engine noise when driving on the interstate.

Aron,
I think the guys from RAAMAudio are actually on TacomaWorld... May be worth a search over there to see if you can't uncover any useful threads. I believe they're a sponsor there as well, so you may be offered a discount.

I can't speak to what's best, since I've never tried but 1 thing. However, I've got their stuff (Ensolite foam & RAAMat sound dampener) in my 4th Gen & I'm pleased with it.

Thanks, I will check out tacoma world. I'm not on that forum, been on yotatech.com, which is catered more to the extreme 4wd crowd.

Asking for the best sound deadener is like asking for the best exhaust or headers, you are going to get a ton of answers. If you search, there are a lot of threads here where people discuss everything from Dynamat to FatMat to roofing materials at Home Depot. I have used a few different items, and I like FatMat. I did basically my entire interior with FatMat (over 200sq fleets worth), and some Dynamat when I ran out of FatMat. I want to say I used the 80mils stuff if I remember correctly. I really liked the FatMat and really cut down on noise. Plus it is a lot less expensive than the Dynamat is. You can see my install here:

Look at post #21

I also have heavier carpeting with mass backing that I got from stockinteriors and I added some extra insulation. No matter what brand you use, you will have a major difference in sound. Just do not expect Bose Quiet Comfort noise-canceling result! :-)

I've purchased dynamat based on a few customers reviews. I have yet to put it on but intend on doing so this month.

I've got an old f100 and used Lowe's peel and seal for roofing. i know people say its different stuff but it worked like a charm in my solid steel truck. Quieted the exhaust tone down and all the little clinks and clanks. I don't have carpet or a headliner in it either. Did the whole inside of the truck cab for around $55 or so.

Hahaha I love your shifter.

Is that butyl based or asphalt based? I want to put some stuff in my Silverado and Camaro eventually but don't want asphalt.

I used the frostking duct insulation. It's a dense foam/rubber with adhesive back and foil front.

I 2nd your awesome shifter. When you put it into drive, its like opening the tap lol.

I think I'm going to go with fat-mat, been reading some reviews on it, sounds like good stuff and its less $$$ than dynomat.

As far as my truck(remember, reg cab 2004 Tacoma with carpet), will the carpet still fit in there the same way once I'm done??? Or am I going to have to fiddle with the fit along the bottom door sill trim, shifter trim, etc.

I can also say this stuff works great. I used it on my 2001 F250 doors and a few other spots. Worked GREAT.
