Mine had a gap in the same spot

I know this is an old thread but I just got my dash skin in today and I cannot dry fit it in. The passenger side appears to require some trimming in order to get it to sit behind the passenger air bag.

I saw another member above post about his requiring trimming. If you see this, were you able to get it to fit or did you trim it? Send it back? I was going to reach out to them because I'm pretty sure it's just slightly defected but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to send it back.

Just an update here for the community so that if this ever pops up in a search for another member, they'll hear my experience.

So I figured if I called dash skin, they'd probably ask me to send it back - which would cost quite a bit due to the size. So I decided to just trim it. I had to take about 1/2" off the back where it meets the glass. Once I got it to sit behind the dash without protruding over the passenger airbag, I noticed that there was no possible way to get it to go over the corner on the driver side (near the air vent in the pillar) and at the same time seat well on the passenger side. Something isn't squared up - either this dash skin, or my car.

Overall, I am very disappointed, but I went ahead with the install anyway and have it under weights now. We will see how it holds up.

I've purchased two so far. The only one i had a problem with and it wasn't the dash skin fault was after I had my winshield replaced. I guess they used to much glue and I could not get the dash skin to sit properly towards the windshield anymore without trimming the cover.

They are a very good mold IMO i just wish they were a little thicker so they wouldn't flex as much. A little thicker and a couple of mounting tabs and it could be good enough to use on its own without having to glue it on top of the broken one.

Got my dash skin in yesterday also. The fitment issues I had was the same as razor28. Its not the dash skin fault, I've had the windshield replaced twice in my car, and the last one, the windshield was installed about 1/2" higher than factory placement. I had to trim the whole front edge of the skin for it to sit properly because it was hitting the urethane bead. however it sits below the "black line" at the bottom of the windshield so you cant see where it was trimmed.

Has anyone just used the dash skin by itself and not install it over top of old cracked dash pad?

I think 99% of the people in this thread removed the old pad, retrofitted the new one with fir tree clips and installed it. Thats what I did. Check the pictures at the top of the thread.

Got mine installed, Ordered the Black color, $90 shipped, great packaging. The material is a nice flexible rubberized plastic. I did have to trim mine a little bit due to a previous windshield replacement but was able to easily trim with some shears. I did the method above with the fir tree clips but the plastic weld would not stick, they popped of immediately. Then I tried the "goop" stuff that came with the skin and the popped off also. I ended up using gorrilla super glue gel for the tree clips.
For the money and the fitment you cannot beat this dash pad. Id recommend it if anyone is on the fence.

For anyone interested, and unaware, I believe the crash pads are available through GM again. They’re not exactly cheap.

Old thread I know... but thanks to everyone that posted in here. Finally ordered one for the '99 TA today. I plan to do as most have here - remove the broken pad, glue clips onto the new one and install it.

Same here, my pad comes in tomorrow, I'll be doing the same exact thing as all the others have.

Does anyone know if these would fit the 93-96 Firebirds? The dash seems very similar to LS1 birds....whats the difference exactly?

The 93-96 have a point in the middle. The 98-02 dash pad should physically fit but there might be a gap in the center. Also, some of these cars are off somehow. Most people's cars have the dash pad fit flush but my car has a 1/4 gap above the gauge cluster.

Thread bump as I just put one of those dash pads in the `99. I left the old one and just sat this one right on it .... no glue ... no nothing. I'll probably put some velcro down in a few spots.
