Yes you need to. I hate car covers, most of the time they cause more problems than they are worth. However if you use one the car needs to be CLEAN before you put it on.

Use a good waterless wash like CarPro's Echo2 or something similar.

Never under any circumstances put a car cover on a dirty car.....well unless you don't care what your paint looks like.

Ordered mine today finally. Thinking of putting something under the defrost to make it look cleaner but not sure how that would effect airflow, screen with lots of holes per square inch maybe?

Wow , I just did this yesterday but today is the first time I'm seeing this thread. I had purchased the 'cover' well over a year ago but was waiting till I had a reason to pull the old cracked one off. That reason arrived yesterday as I wanted to fix some of the LED dash lights. Like the original poster, I just pulled out the broken pieces, fully intending to glue it back together and reinstall it, then put the cover on top. But I thought, "Heck, lets see what it looks/fits like before getting going on that gluing part". Like he said, it really fits quite well. As mentioned, it needs some Velcro or something similar to secure it. I would hesitate on using double sided tape since that seems like that would be more troublesome in the future if you had to take it off again.

So did you take out your old dash pad or leave it in?

I'm doing mine now. Fit is pretty awesome just on top of the old dash.

Has anyone re-used the velcro tabs from the original dashpad? Or is there a suitable choice from AutoZone or Amazon?

Hey guys, thanks for sharing & tips!!

I ended up not using any of the velcro by the windshield, 6 push pins in front, factory edges on sides & foam pad. NO squeaks\rattles from the dash!
Did not line up the factory LED bracket so it sticks up a little there, but besides that super satisfied!

Great thanks guys! I fixed my old dash but don’t see it being reliable in time. Saw these cover pads and curious how good the were and look great. I will be putting mine over too old pad.

Default The other section of the dash

Is there anybody that has done anything with the front section of the dash? That cracks and warps worse lol especially around the air bag on passenger side in my case.

Try to find a whole new dash assembly. I put a whole new one in about 6 years ago. I’m gonna try to find another one. Paid $350 for the last one.

Really? You got a whole new dash for 350? Where did you score a deal like that? I was thinking about just picking up an old beat-up dash for next to nothing that is structurally sound and restoring it with custom speaker placement and some kind of bad *** finish. I feel like trying to find a "new" one will be next to impossible, over priced and have the same results as the original.

This was 6 years ago. There were several for sale on this site and ebay. $250-$300 mainly but they were used. I found a guy that had one pulled out of his car and stored when his car was only a couple years old back in 2004. $350. He turned his car into a drag car.

Yes....its gonna be very hard to find one now. But I;m looking. Don't count out junk yards, some of those cars have perfect condition dash boards. Covered in layers of dust and dirt......but after a cleaning they're very close to perfect.

Just plain jane v6 base model birds have the same dash? If so I'm sure there are a lot of em at thr yards overlooked. Although i finally got my LS1 bird last month that ill likely keep as long as Im able to drive it so i know how much f-body dashes just arent manufactured to withstand extreme Conditions to begin with so doing a custom job on it with fiber glaas structure with maybe a vynil over lay would be prettty neat. was hoping to find some one on the site that has reconstructed them in a similar fashion... Check out sprayway customs on youtube. Just a DIYer that inspired the idea to try myself.

A company made an ABS version but the fitment wasn't quite spot on.

I bought that ABS version.....it fit 100% perfect just like the factory dash. Only problem.....after about 6 months it started to warp from the heat and I had to take it out because the hump right above the gauge cluster rose upward maybe 3" inches...it was hilarious.

I haven't had mine (Dashskin) for too long, about 5 months, but holding up under the Texas heat, car has no tint/only using a shade!

Removed the old dash pad because it was in pieces & when I removing them they broke into even smaller pieces...lol
