Default Washing the LT1 Engine bay?

I'd like to clean my engine and the engine bay up a little bit as the dirt and grime is really bumming it up. Anyone have any tips on how would be the best way to clean it? What products should I own before attempting it etc. etc.

I would be very careful washing the LT1, if you get water on the optispark..well you know.

hey I use the CD2 engine cleaning kit its a cleaner and a detailer. This stuff works great just make sure you have covered all major componets and of course DO NOT CRANK WITH CLOTHS ON ENGINE! Immedialtely crank for 20 min after rinsing.

When I cleaned my 95 Z28's engine bay I made sure I covered that opti-spark. I can't say that enough. I know, I learned the hard way.

I clean my engine about once every 2 weeks during the dry months. If it is really dirty, you are probably going to have to scrub some, but once you get it all cleaned up, it's easy to maintain. Go get yourself a bottle of Simple Green Automotive spray, that's what I use. Hose down the engine bay with a light spray/mist. And just avoid spraying where the optispark is!! After you have the entire engine sprayed down, take the bottle of simple green and spray down EVERYTHING with it. Now let that sit for 10-15 minutes. Come back and spray it back down with the light spray/mist on the hose. It's going to take a little bit of spraying to get all the bubles of the simple green off. If it is really dirty, use a sponge or rag to scrub the parts before you spray off the simple green. Be patient, if you let it actually sit for 10-15 minutes, the simple green works away and lifts all kinds of dirt. Also wash your engine when the engine is cold. Good luck!

is cleaning the LS1 engine the same? or do you not have to worry about that on the new engine?

LS1 has individual coil per cylinder ignition and there is no optispark. Pretty cut and dry, just spray it down and don't really worry about much.
