Default old school.......

does anyone know of any 4th gen bird with a hood tach? also i know they were inaccurate as far as being a useful gauge. but i think it would look good on my black ram air. also does anyone know off other companies that for certain sell fixed light conversions for 4th gen birds besides Breathless? links would be great. thanks in advance

why is acceptable for someone with a camaro to put some big *** cowl hood on or a ram air hood but im not suppose to want a hood tach? its a heritage thing. like v8s in f-bodys. and the fixed headlight thing is because most of my driving is at night and quite frankly i wonder about things like the dreaded headlight motor replacement, and how the pop ups ruin the curves of the beatiful ram air. dont tell me i should have bought a camaro if i didnt like the pop up lights stock for stock camaros are too plain. even the ss's are a little bland compared to the curves of the T/A's. IMHO. i'm glad that gm made the camaro.......donor parts.....and they did my far outsell the firebirds, but im glad gm gave another wrapper to have my eye candy in.

If it's not very useful, then why do it?

Ask all the people that put on aftermarket Billett grills.

I wouldn't do it, but that's me. If you think it would look cool, go for it. It's your car. Jeg's or Autometer are bound to have something you can use.

I think......my $.02 here.........you should leave the heritage stuff to.....well,...the heritage stuff. Our F-body's are somewhat hi tech compared to first gens. An emblem, a stripe, etc....maybe. A T/A or Camaro look badass by themselves. Sleek, sexy...........leave the hood tach to the old Goats. IMO. I'm not trying to get ya all smoked up. By the way, you might want to ease up on the Camaro bashing.

If you think it will look good to go with an old school hood tach, then do it...it's your ride and your money...therefore, only your opinion really counts.

I haven't seen any other companies besides Breathless with the headlight conversion...it does look sweet, but it's really pricey.

...Camaros need loving, too.

Some people put big nasty 19" wheels on their car, I don't like it but I don't put them down for it. Some drop their car way too low. I don't like it but I don't put them down for it. You get the idea...

It's your ride, do what the hell you want to it. I think it would be cool but, like you, I'm old school.

Who says it's acceptable? Is there a "cool" book i haven't read? It's the owners choice, not local bystanders. Just put the hood tach on then and stop worrying what people think. You asked.

point taken all. the hood tach was something i had been kicking around for awhile. but after further thought opening a hole in the hood for the sake of looks alone isnt the best way to spend MY money. i didnt mean to slam on the camaros. actually a 98 z28 is why i bought the 99 ram air.(loved....i mean lusted for the engine.) besides there is no song that i know of called bitchn firebird. doesnt even sound right. however i was hoping to hear of another way to deal with the headlights. thanks again

I like the idea of a hood tach. Its unique. However, if you go that route, I would spend the time and money to have it molded seamlessly into the hood to look stock.
