Default Painted vent bezels

I kinda wanted to spice up my dash a little, and got an idea after jumping into a friends '05 mustang. The bezels on the vents now match my shift **** and radio. I thought it came out quite well, so I had to post pics of it.

That does look very nice, not over the top at all.

I usually don't like painted interiors, but that looks very subtle and tasteful. do you find the paint scraping off when you turn the vents? And what type of paint/process did you use? Thanks in advance!

It is a little tougher to turn the vents, and i'm sure it scrapes because of it, but it only touches it behind the vent where you can't see it. I'm sure it'll loosen up after repeated turning. Basically, I just popped the vents out with a small screwdriver, popped out the bezels, then cleaned them off and prepped them using plastic cleaner and acetone, then sprayed them with silver dupli-color spray paint, then two coats of automotive dupli-color clear. Let them dry in the sun, then pop them back in.

What did you use to tape off the driver side vent. I did this last summer and couldn't get tape to stick to the plastic. I cleaned it but it still wouldn't hold. So I never painted that one yet.

The pics dont do it justice. It breaks up all that grey.

How would it look if you were paint the inner area where the piece holds all the little vents and the bar that slides thems, but don't paint the vents.

The driver's side was a pain in the ***! I ended up masking it using duct tape, because the blue painter's tape I was going to use wouldn't stick. I had to use several small edge pieces to get it to look alright, painted it, then had to scrape the paint edge with a small micro-screwdriver where the line was crooked. The rest were easy to do, since the sleeves just popped out of the dash after the vent was removed.

I never thought of duct tape. The blue tape had no chance even after I cleaned the rest of that piece to get the armor all off. Thanks for the info.

What color did you use? I used the dupli color med charcol metalic. It looks pretty close to the color of yours.

I dunno, I just grabbed the first can of silver paint I saw... (Getting paint from garage)...Dupli-Color Ford DS FM 226 SILVER. I think it's just the generic silver color ford uses.
