Default Question About The Fuel Rail Covers

I bought the stock Vette fuel rail covers. I know that I have to cut them to fit on my 2000 SS. Does anyone know the steps on getting these to fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could look at the pics on afterthoughts auto and try to get the general outline of the cuts, by the way, how much were the plain Corvette FRC's?

Ok when i got mine I just put them on looked at what I needed to cut and started cutting a little at a time till I got it.

Also you could always talk to parbreak and get a set already cut and then just do the smoothing and painting yourself

Its not that hard to do. The passanger side took maybe a 10 min. and the driver side took me an hour to get the cut out right for the AIR crap.

Yes, but what you don't understand is some people make money on selling the covers that they cut. So if they 'sell' the templates, they won't make near as much money any more, ...

Yes, it's a hobby time project, but it is still a very small profit. Why would anyone want to give that away to someone else & lose their hobby/business dollars?

By the way, I really doubt it would be a 'Buttload', ..., easy money maybe, tho, ...

Hmm, ...

This is exactly what I did as well. I searched online and looked at how others had cut theirs, and I discovered that mine had to be cut differently than what I saw online. Since then I've not seen two that are done the same, so I'd have to say that each car is unique. I attribute it to variances on the assembly line.

I've had SO many people copy my cuts it's unbelievable. It shouldn't be that hard to find. Just look at some pics and freehand with a felt marker on the covers where the cuts should be. I do use a template that I made years ago so that all the cuts are consistent. I have no intentions however of selling those templates as I put a lot of hours into fine tuning them.

What kind of cutting device has everyone used? Probably a dremel tool would be best, do you think?

Like Bryan said, there's too much invested to just give out the templates.

Good Luck to anyone who chooses to go the 'do-it-myself' route! It's not that tough though, ...

The hardest part of the work is the sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, paint, primer, sand, primer, sand, paint, wetsand, paint, etc., etc., ..., it seems to go on forever!

Shet, I give up, ...

I guess we'll have to see how it goes in a couple months. My car has been in storage since October and I won't get it out till April.

Yeah, I don't mind telling what tools I use to do them. I use a dremel with a high quality cutting wheel that 's like $14.99 at Home Depot, not the cheapo cut wheels. Then use a drum wheel sander to smooth the cuts then sand them by hand with 400 grit to really smooth then down. Lots and lots of work. The people who complain about how much Afterthoughts or others charge are the same people who have never done them.
