Lid decals
Depending on the thickness of the decal it will go on just fine, the bumps would just transfer through.
Another thing you can do, it tape a heavy frame on the lid, the exact size of the decal, then sand all the bumps down, thats what I did.

The LS1 Motorsports lid that I once owned had an "LS1 Motorsports" vinyl decal on it when I bought it, so I'd say that you'll be just fine. However, the texture will show through.
If you've used any spray-on protectants (Armor All, Meguirs, etc) on the lid, make sure you get all of that off before applying any decals. You'll have trouble getting them to stick otherwise.

I put a Sliver metallic Firebird and the word FORMULA on my LS1 motorsoprts lid. I used a little less water than normal and sat there for a while pressing it into the textures until it was dry. I used a little drop of edge sealer and wiped it around the edges. It stayed there for about 15,000 miles before I traded the car in. Only problem I had was the "A" on the Formula. It peeled off.
