Default Engine Paint on Headers

Will engine paint work on headers or will it just burn off?

depends on what paint you use but yes, eventually it will burn off. depending on how thorough you are with the job will tell how long it will last. but dont expect it to be very long-term. use 1200* paint.

it'll burn off. you need paint for extreme heat applications....unfortunately you can only buy this type of paint in flat colors.

For the money it would cost to powdercoat, you could just have it ceramic coated.

Powdercoating would melt off. There are a few high heat powders, but I don't think these are sufficient enough for headers.

I think for a real true show car gloss black powdercoated exhaust would look insane depending on the car.

Use POR-20 (the high heat version of POR-15).
I just painted my new cat-back system with it, it looks great!
Soooo easy to use too.
My buddy in Orlando used it to paint the headers for his 3rd Gen, and got equally good results.

Pics:

...that muffler is also now painted (SLP dual/dual), I just haven't uploaded pics of it yet. I will be taking pics of the finished installation as well.

POR-20 is great stuff, and a little goes a long way... after painting the I-pipe, muffler, and my new Pacesetter off-road Y-pipe all with 2 coats, I still have about 80% of a pint remaining.

Does it actually stay on the header's or does it burn off?

Edit, I just went to their site and they claim it as a header paint.

Try the eastwood paint, I touched up the areas where I had my o2 bung welded on my header and it seems to be working fine. This stuff is thin like water, strange but again it is working.

I was looking at that stuff in the catalog, how long have you had it on?

It has not been in any weather etc., and really not to long on the car but some paints I have used fall off almost the same day. 800 mi, dy weather holding well, no prep on the welds just painted it right over them. On my "Y" pipe I used some and it lasted about 1.5 years 5 k miles then started to peel off the bottom half of the pipe.
