Ancient thread, but I'll reiterate, this steering wheel is used across the Chevy/Pontiac line now, G5, G6, Cobalt, Malibu, Corvette, Sky. This isn't a Vette only steering wheel, and you should be able to find one of those cars in a junkyard now, ripe for nabbing a wheel.

so that means you can grab a wheel/airbag from one of the above, plug/bolt it in and go?

It will probably bolt in. Doubtful the airbag will work. That would be a HUGE problem if you get in an accident and how you're ins company deals with it.

So ok , heres the skinny . The C5 and C6(05 4 spoke and 06-up 3 spoke) use the new smaller metric diameter splined shaft in the steering column . The F-bodies used the older than god himself larger splined upper shaft . If your not skeered to disassemble the upper portion the steering column , the new shaft installs in the f-body column just like old one . So Yes it is possible to use a 3 spoke wheel or c5 wheel . You wont however get the 3 spoke radio controls to work . They dont do as much as old ones did because GM bundled in the info center controls in the newer cars , so they only allow for volume up/down , seek up/down and 1 or 2 other things . The voltage outputs are different as well . With the newer airbags if u didnt just want something factory looking and dont wanna mess with modding airbag wires ( I mean how are u gonna test if it works ...just sayin) the inflators on the new airbags are removeable . Unlike the older f-body style which was retained permanently with aluminum rivets . So take the inflator off and youll never run the risk of the bag falsely going off . If your still with me , way back in the day I swapped a upper steering shaft from a 04-07 Grand Prix . I got the column cheap as hell and it is the new style metric shaft . I did this in 05 so the 3 spoke wasnt out yet . I put a 01-03 Grand prix wheel in my TA because it had a super fat rim and it looked factory and all the radio contols were direct plug ins and works with the stock radio perfectly . I like it back then , but now I think this wheel is ugly as sin

So , sum up ...if ya got the ***** to swap the upper shaft , a 3 spoke will bolt right up . Grab one from a 07-10 Cobalt SS if u want silver stitching . I offer no advise on retro-fitting the airbag to be functional , it would be a pretty epic dumb thing to do as GM airbag modules , electronics and sensors have changed drastically since the last F-car rolled off the line . How could you determain the new inflator is compatible with the old school airbag system ...again jus sayin .

Heres pics of my old grand prix wheel swap . I dont have in process pics just the final , I will say its a rather tedius involved swap , pay specific attention to what you do or you will have a ton of parts , springs , washers , wires ect and dumbfounded look on your face .The radio controls are from a 04 Bonneville GXP since they were black and lit up red . FYI , this pontiac wheel uses the same inner frame as the c5 and 05 c5 wheel .

I was just saying get off the Vette high horse if you want to swap one cause almost all new GM car's use this exact same steering wheel. Your gonna pay a lot more to yank a Vette steering wheel than you would a Cobalt one.

if it is made, what steering wheel would be the most preferred? the cheapest route including a working airbag, as well as the easiest to find, is probably one out of a G6. Another economical option is a C5. Would you be wililng to pay $200 for an adapter plate, airbag electrical adapter, and a factory radio controls adapter?

i like the corvette styling, but its getting outdated (wouldnt mind a c6 wheel). i think the g6 would obviously be easier for us ta guys.(solstice wheel?)

what would that put the swap price at? looking at ebay puts the wheel w/o bag at around 100.. i wonder where and for how much the full wheel could be sourced (i guess local salvage is best).

ready for mad updates on the subject.
