Thumbs up SLP SS Grill - Install and Re-Install?

Call me ****, but I'm going to clean the car up over the course of this week, and I'd like to remove my SS SLP Grill and clean behind it, then put it back on.

To save any confusion, this is the grill I'm currently running:

How do I go about installing and then re-installing this grill? It was on the car when I bought it.

Thanks!

It has like 8-10 little push pins that have a lot of little spiney things on it. You simply pull them out and the grille will come off. You may need to use plyers or something to pry them out. Be carefull to not pry against the grille itself.

I would say to clean around it as those things are sometimes hard to get out and may break. You may also damage the grille, so if you do decide to remove it be carefull.

I'm with Nuf...you run the risk of damaging the grille by removing it...plus, the glossy "pine-tree" fasteners really aren't reusable...you probably could try to reuse them, but they get pretty banged up when removed. If you still want to remove them, SLP sells replacement fasteners...

I have the SLP bow tie grill, It looks just like the SS grill but with a bow tie. My grill went on with two sided tape (I kind of think the grill was a rip off but o well) the paint chiped when I was put it on. If the quality is anything like my grill I would leave it on.

Mine is held in by pushpins, I just didn't know if they were reusable or not.

Guess I'll leave the grill where it is, and break out my Qtips!

Thank you for the good information.

Those pushpins are not re-usable in most circumstances. I had them on a double A pillar pod and was going to re-use them on a triple pod and 3 out of 4 broke when pulling them out.

Maybe using a small tip end with a medium water pressure hose? (I could probably be more techincal, but I'm at a loss for words right now). Might get what you can't reach. Just a thought, haven't done this myself unfortunately.

I've had mine off and put it back on without issue.
The push-fasteners I take out with wire cutters
(gently). I was able to reuse them. This fastener
can be found in the Help! blister-pack rack if you
ruin too many of them; they're basically a
"consumable", not expected to last more than the
initial assembly.

Just be gentle and you won't break nuthin'.

Now, I wouldn't have done it just to clean; I had
a project motivation.

I have taken mine off twice now. I reused the stock fasteners, they still work but I am not sure how much more abuse they can take.

resurrecting an old thread....

I have some additional questions about removing a SLP SS grille from a car. I am buying a used one and need to know how I can access these fastners to remove it from the seller's car. Do I reach up from underneith the car and get to them from the back or do I work my fingers through the grille openings in the front and push them out with plyers or some other tool?

Thanks guys! Buying a used one for $100 as $300+ for a new one from SLP is crazy.
