So...besides time and money....what is stopping people from doing this?

What it would take....
~Go to junk yard cut top off of a hartop
~take part off of t-tops that locks them in place
~~install them on the hardtop peice cut out

*of course a little triming and other cutting, but that seems like the basic idea*

For the people that say..well what about safety....
look at the verts....how unsafe is that compared to this (where you also have the hatch part for a little more safety)

I really like this idea, but there are a couple of negatives:

1) where do you put the large 1-piece targa once you remove it? (I know in the back somewhere, but that just seems dangerous)

or

1a) do the one piece removeable Targa, but make a custom set of moutning ears that would sit in the back to lock the targa in place when you take it off...

or

2) I would do it where the middle bar is a seperate piece that can be locked into place with a lever like the t-tops themselves, that way you can use the e-top holders and then just worry about a much smaller 'bar' that you could make a holder somewhere for...

3) I would only consider doing this as long as I personally had a roll-bar or cage installed (yeah yeah, most will say they won't need it, but I wouldn't drive a convertible without at least a roll bar either)...

4) If anyone steals these ideas, they are going to get a beating if I don't do it first!!! hehehe

But honestly, it is a cool mod, but on the realistic factor if it were to be done, you would need to do some serious underbody work to make sure everything stays in place properly, as the convertibles have a slightly different undercarriage to take into consideration the different stresses because of the lack of the top...

Also, to do it 'right' you would need to cut back from where the t-tops mounts to open up the top quite a bit more, maybe take the bracketry from the convertible in front and duplicate it for the back edge of the Targa as well and then it would be a nice big 'mod'...

Looks nice, but you would loose a lot of strengh by takeing that bar out, that car would twist like hell without it. Now if you reenforced it someway with subframes or something, maybe then.

What about SLP subframes....with there design it would reduce a lot of flex in that area
