Some gear oil ended up spilling on my rear seat carpet and it smells real bad
. I tried to clean it up but the smell is still there. It smells like a steel factory in my car. Is there something out there that I could use to clean up the oil that seeped through the carpet and get rid of that smell?

Was running a little low on gear oil, used half a bottle up and put the bottle in the rear seat with the cap on and in a plastic bag. Was trying to do some donuts and when I got back home taddah! A pool of gear oil behind my seat.

Pull up your carpet, and tear out the padding underneath the area. Then, use some Febreeze on the spill, and follow up with a steam-cleaning and another shot of Febreeze. You can get the smell out, but it will take some work.

Thanks for the ideas. Ill try the apple slices and the baking soda if worse comes to worse, maybe the charcoal. Does anybody know if the rear seat carpet is easy to lift up. I guess it doesn't matter, I'll get to work this weekend.
