Best way to clean engine bay for LT1?

To be honest, what works great, and is really easy, is buy some simple green, spray it all over... let it sit, hose it off, and let it dry... it shined up all the plastic, and cleaned off all the other ****

When I had mine, I never worried about the opti. Just pulled up to the car wash, left it running and soaped it up then sprayed it off. Don't directly spray the opti, but you can spray the underlining, and everything else. After you get all the dust/dirt/grim/ whatever off, then you can go back and use wipes like simple green or silicon black magic.
Everyone will tell you not to spray, maybe I had a factory freak, but my opti only went out after a coolant line busted on a dyno..

No, do not hose off your engine. It will only lead to more electrical problems in the future.
Just spray some stuff on a cotton towel, and start wiping the stuff. Take your time and you will be pleased with the results.

Like the other guy said, WD40 is a great cleaner/shiner... In Karting everyone uses it for cleaning the entire frame, axles, engine, etc... Everyone has gallon cans of it around with them. Also if youve been around used-car dealers, you will know they spray tons under the engine bay, just be sure not to get any on the headers because it will smoke like crazy.

Man, just spray some Gunk from the auto parts store and hose the bitch off. I've changed a waterpump (lets coolant drool down the engine when you un-bolt) used high pressure washers and washed the engine twice per year. No issues. Once after washing with pressure right on the front of the oil pan the engine sputtered a bit for a day or two but it wont kill the opti. (didn't do it to mine) The opti will dry out.
Gunk it, wait, hose it, Clean.

Another vote for Gunk (Engine Brite) here. The stuff works wonders. When I did mine using it, it did such a good job on it's own that I didn't even have to hose the engine down afterward. After 3 saturations, about 90% of the dirt and grime had literally just dripped to the ground, and the little bit that was left over in the nooks and crannies I just wiped up with some old T-shirts. Cool thing about this stuff too is that it leaves all the surfaces it touches with a nice wet, shiny look.

another vote for the towel and spray method. I do this on my ls1 as well. I just get a small hand towel, wet it down, squeeze it out, and wipe all of the dust off of everything, then I take an engine detailer and clean everything up. I used bleach white/water mix on my towel for my uncle's lt1 since it is white. It really cleaned it up.
