take it 2 a paint shop....a dealership is gonna charge alot of labor to paint it. It shouldnt cost more than $160 for paint and labor costs to paint it. make sure whoever paints it gets enough metallic in the paint so it looks right

Pretty sure it's going to cost a bit more than $160.00 for paint plus labor unless the paint is going to roll the paint on. I think a more realistic estimate is upwards of $400-500 dollars and that's without wetsanding and buffing which could add another few hundered. Paint costs are not that much since it should only take less than a pint or base and clearcoat. It's the labor that's going to jack up the cost.

i talked to the gm dealer they said just to paint the hood would be $300, but to add some over spray to the front and the fenders so the hood matches plus install is going to be 450...so does that sound resonable??

Sounds reasonable if they are going to blend the panels which is what they mean by "overspray". Metallics are really hard to match up so by overspraying or blending into the adjacent panel it tricks your eyes into thinking it's a perfect match. On opaque colors like black, white, etc., it's not a critical.

$450 aint too shabby, heck most shops dont even charge for overspray its just an added bonus when you are getting a single panel painted

I had acid rain marks in my clearcoat on the hood that could not be taken out by any easy method.

Ended up having my hood stripped, hand block sanded to take out any ripples, shot with black/clearcoat, they painted my Blackbird stripes on permanently and cleared over all so there is no perceptable edge to the stripes. They came to my house to remove the hood and brought it back to my house to re-install so that my car would not have to set in the shop and possibly get damaged.

$500

As with anything, you get what you pay for.....ESPECIALLY with paintjobs.

Just finished getting my WS6 hood on my NBM Formula. The guy was able to exactly match the paint just using one of my headlight covers so I could keep the car as it is my DD. It came out awesome. Looks like it came on the car. But like JMM98LS1 said you get what you pay for. This guy (Tim Lane) pretty much specializes in F-bodies and charged me $417.00 installed which I thought was more than fair considering the quality.
And as for Maaco, if this was a beater I'd say go for it but for this car I think you'd be unhappy with the end result. Good luck...

Don't pick on Maaco too much...you can get one of their inexpensive paint jobs and they will paint everything (including the interior, tires, exhaust system...)
