Default What to do in preparation for VHT nightshades

I got my 2 cans of nightshades in the mail today. I plan on painting my lights up tomorrow. Do I need to do any sanding of the lights first or should I just spray away? Thanks

What lights are you planning to shade? If it's just corners, you'll only need a part of one of those cans. Regardless, in preparation if you're doing your headlights and they're foggy, I'd get a plastic lens polishing kit (I think sonus makes one) and clean them up before applying the vht. If it's the corners, I'd just wash em and wipe em down with some alcohol and then spray away.

I'm doing the tails to match the Berger panel I did, SS L.E.D, rear fender lights and clear corners. I'm leaving the headlights alone, I may polish them and do teh Whistler mod but I don't know.

If the lights are in good shape (not foggy and a bunch of crap on them), then a quick wash and rub with alcohol should do it. The main point is to make sure they are free of grase and grime.

On a side note, make sure you have your lights side by side when you're doing them so you can make sure they both look the same. Too often people do them separate and find out that they don't match when they put em on. Also, a couple coats will be pretty dark but it's hard to tell it. Try and put them up to your car and look at them from all angles after each coat to make sure you don't overdo it. Just a few tips though.

Awesome I appreciate it. So I WON'T have to sand them?

You also said something about a headlight polishing kit. Where do I get it and what alls involved? I was planning on using sandpaper in this order=100 grit, 200grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, 800 grit, 1000, 1200, 1500, then plastic polish. Would that be enough for the headlights to look clear?

My bad, it's a Novus polishing kit. Check out the link here, walks you through the whole thing https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/157192-fixed-my-yellow-cracked-headlight-today-pics.html .

Do I HAVE to use a clearcoat? I'm out of money and don't have any laying around. Will I be fine without it? Or at least be fine driving without it for a week or so, then could I get some and put it on later? I'm just ready to paint these bitches up!

The clearcoat just makes it shinier. You don't have to.

Well I did it. Did all the lights actually. I went ahead and did 2 coats on the headlights just to clean them up a bit. I did a **** load of coats on the tails, ss led, fender lights and front corners. They are about as black as they can be. Hopefully the lights will still shine through!

Not a smart idea to do headlights....someone has done a test. It decreases the output A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost to the point of not being able to see at night.

Only place you can really get it that i've found is through afterthoughts auto or on ebay.

And the clearcoat doesn't necessarily make it shinier, it's meant to keep the shading from fading through washing and weathering. It will shine it up a bit but if you really want it to shine like a taillight surface you'll have to wet sand with some fine grit paper and then buff it.

But what was it? I'm looking for a name here and that tells me nothing

I looked on Afterthoughts and couldn't find it. I don't even know why they would have it.

No one's give you a name because it will be with whatever other rattle can spray paint people have. No one rattle can clear is better than another.

You're kidding, none of those places has a can of clear coat? You must be looking/asking for something or the people are absolutely retarded. It will be with the rest of the rattle cans. For example, if there is a shelf of them with diff color caps, the clearcoat will be the one with the clear cap.
