wetsanding headlights is beyond me damnit i went at them for like an hour with 1500-1000 grit and nothing at all! hit them with the supplied polish and meguiars plastix and still nothing...........said **** it and brought out the big gun IE. power ball and still NOTHING
even finished the whistler mod (badass by the way) and the covers still look like ***............gooddamn stupid camaro headlights!

Are you lightly gliding the paper, or pressing? If you press your just gonna replace the oxidation with sanding marks, go on up to 2500 letting it glide around in the water on it's own....
hmm maybe u should read up ont he process, u need to start with lower grit. then work ur way up, there is noooo way that this will take u an hour, should take 2+ on each headlight at minimum

Wet sand, then buff out with compound. They will come out brand new.
We do it once a week at the shop. E36/E46 BMWs are the same way, but have even more expensive lenses/headlight assemblies.

Might want to try a bit of "Micro Mesh" used for years on plastics. Works great, here is a example of a kit.

some lenses will never look new again I spent a couple days on mine and although the outer surface is smooth and clear there seems to be some deep inner cracking of the lense that I couldnt get out.

Mine were the same way. Unfortunately all the eyesores on my headlights were this way, the blemishes seemed to be all the way through the lenses. After sanding my *** off for two days....I said screw it and put blackouts on.
I've been through this as well with little luck. I spent a long time sanding 600, 1000, 1500 but I have what looks like thousands of little chips in them that i thought were right on the surface but the surface is smooth as can be. I said screw it and just got some halo's. One day I will give it another shot and see what I can do with them, I plan on putting them on my gf's Z28 since her lenses are pretty rought too. You could always buy some halos and just pop those lenses off and but them on the stock headlight if you don't like halo's. It's cheaper then buying a new stock headlight.

It sanded my Merkur lights way back in the day. If they are bad enuff to have to sand, they will probably never look new again. I got good results, but went with the euro lights in the end. If I have to do the same with the T/A I'll swap them out. It is a lot more expensive though.
im shocked that the meguiars plastx didnt do anything. I just used the plastx on my friends sts and here are two pics of how it turned out. All i used was a small buffer and bamm clear.

plastx is great stuff as long as the plastic is just in the beggining stages.....my car sat in the hot sun for 5 months last summer while i was deployed and when i came back my lenses were screwed.
I recently did my headlights. I have never done it before and was so afraid of screwing up that I bought a used set to work on. The set I got were yellowed and pretty hazy. I spent about 16 hours in total but I also did the Whistler mod to the lights I bought. Below is the before and after pictures. I used 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500 then 2000 and finished with the Novus plastics compound.

If I can do it anyone can do it as I normally have no patience for this kind of stuff. Just follow the instructions in the sticky at the top of this forum and they will look great when completed.

^^^ No offense but they still don't look that clear.
I fought the losing battle for many months with my stock headlights. I sanded and sanded and polished and prayed, nothing. They might have been close but not clear enough for me. I finally said **** it and bought some new halo's. Shitty headlights are a big pet peeve of mine.

On a side note your car does look great! Love the black ZR1 wheels with the pewter metallic. Looks very bad-***.
