Default Mineral Spirits on Paint

My wife has been advised to use mineral spirits on the paint on her near new company trucks to strip the wax before adding decals. Anybody heard this is a good idea?

I'm **** about my Z, and am familiar with the Zaino process of washing with Dawn, using a clay bar, washing again, etc. I think this would remove any contaminants without running the risk of ruining the paint with mineral spirits.

Any pros out there that think mineral spirits is ok?

My dad used to use a little when he needed to get some scuffs out of the paint, but he knew what he was doing. It would be really easy to really screw up your paint if you used it, and it's just overkill to remove wax. There's plenty of alternatives, like dawn, that are much less risky.

Don't do it unless you plan on repainting soon.

Mineral spirits is fine on automotive paint. But a better choice would be 'Prep-sol'
It's made to strip wax without the contaminates left behind by mineral spirits.

Thanks for the input everybody. I'll avoid the mineral spirits.

Hawk, I had forgotten all about Prep-sol. I used it when I painted a car about 20 years ago. Thanks for the tip.

Any automotive wax and grease remover will work. I used some I picked up at Napa when I did the stripes on my car. Mineral spirits are a bit harsh for just removing wax for decals.
