wash the car
lubricate well
tear the clay into fourths that way if you drop it on the ground you can throw it away
rub back and forthrepeatedly, folding clay as you move.

You should definetly wax the car!!! But Depeding on how much of a perfectionist you are (it doesnt matter if you wash again) but I'd wash after claying just to remove the lube, then wax, but thats just me- afterall, I have a black car and I hate streaks, smears, and dust!!!! Also- DEFINETLY tear up the clay because if you drop it- its done!!!

Here's what I do.
Wash
clay
wash
dry
polish (or swirl remover if necessary)
then carnuba wax at least 2 coats.
After that I'll wash once a week and use a cleaner wax.
Major Edit. Don't push too hard with the clay bar.
