Question What's up with the Front Passenger seat and legroom????

Anyone else notice there is less legroom on the passenger side front seat than the driver side????

There's plenty of space for the seat to go back but I guess the way the brackets are set-up it just doesn't...

It's because of "the hump" so the cats can clear the underbody. If the hump weren't there, there would be a ton more space.

yeah i have noticed the same thing..a lot of people ask me why the seats dont go back farther...my friend has a 30th SS and his seat goes back a lot farther but the y-pipes are configured differently i think..but his seat is so much nicer to sit in than my passenger seat is..thankfully i never sit over there.

I dunno about you, but my cats were bolted right to the manifolds and no where near that stupid hump.

The weirdest part (to me) is the passenger seat in a Trans-Am seems to have a LOT LESS room than the passenger seat in a Camaro..

Anyone else ever notice this?

Maybe it's the seat design? Or the dash design?

the hump is for the cat on the V6 model. Not cost effecient to make a completely new floorboard just for the V8 version so they kept it there.

The hump is left over part of the chassis design from the 93-97 models.

Ding, we have a winner. It was cheaper to keep the floorbard design vs. something new for 98-02.

I wonder if it could safely be pounded out using the BFH mod....

no... I thought about this, but if you look under neath, a unibody cross support runs right under that hump as well. Short of having a good chassis guy cut it and re-weld a new one, I don't know of any safe way to remove it.

Yes, driver side leg room in my T/A in noticibly shorter that my son's Z28.

The biggest difference, however is between my 2000 T/A and my wife's 2002 Firebird. The Firebird seat will go back at least 4-5" further than the T/A... I'm not exaggerating. I'm 6'-4" and I have to move the Firebird seat forward to reach the pedals. In the T/A, I'm slightly cramped.

Now that's wierd.

Maybe a difference between power/manual leather/cloth seats?

They are both power seats. Firebird=cloth, T/A=leather. The T/A seats are significantly "thicker" on the backrest portion, but the real difference is in the backward travel of the track.

With the seat all the way back in the V6 car, the back of the seat actually touches the rear seat! I wish the T/A did that!

Nope, only owned 2 2nd gens and 3 4th gens. And the 93-97 got the second cat.
