I would get it painted the same as the outside to make the engine bay look cleaner. JMHO

It needs to be clear coated like the top. That factory WS6 hoods are painted and clear coated top/bottom.

When I got mine painted I had them paint the bottom and clear it. I love it, it looks way better.

I did NOT on my Mystic Teal Trans-Am when I put a GM WS6 hood on it...

My friend Chris (Whistler) sprayed the top in base and then clear and on the bottom he mixed a little clear with the base and then sprayed that on to give it a factory look...

I think if you're going to clear the bottom side of the hood you need to clear under the hood (engine bay) as well (if not now at some point)...

Do the underside. Both sides of my hood are pure Maple Red Metallic. If you ever go to a car show, I think you'd want the underside of your hood matching your car. Plus my cowl sticks up a little bit, and I know it would bug the **** out of me if I could see a piece that was a different color, so I'm glad I got both sides painted.

The post is about whether to clearcoat the bottom or not... pretty sure he's getting color sprayed under there...

Wish the previous owner would have cleared the bottom of the hood when he put it on. I suppose he used a powerwasher under there alot because the paint is flaking off.

Wrong.........
Under the factory hoods only have the base on them.
Nothing under the hood in the engine compartment has clearcoat. Would look better it were though.

Yeah, I see that now. But some people opt not to paint under the hood. Cheaper, they don't see it as priority, etc.....

Mine is clearcoated BTW, for the Maple Red Metallic, there was 2 different colors listed in the GM guide. It depends on the month your car was built as to which one you got. My paint guy used the first one on the bottom of the hood, but then realized it may be the other, so he called me and I brought my car over. It was a touch dark, so we knew it was the other one. So the underside of my hood is a smidge darker, but it wasn't a big deal nor was it that drastic of a mismatch. Both are Maple Red. Good luck with your hood.

Yep, the guy who painted my hood works in a body shop, and does work on the side. He gets all the supplies at work. Here is basically how he described it to me. Whatever tank they used for the first MRM would get down or got down to the end, they filled it with one that was slighty off. So there are two *slighty* different MRM. If neither was the correct shade, he'd have to mix the two together to get the right one. Almost like they didn't rinse out the dirty glass before adding a different drink in there. So the asterisk in his book said "Depending on what month the car was built", shades may be a little off. It's one of the two. Before your guy paints your entire hood, if he is using the GM paint code on your door, have him paint a swatch that you can compare to your fenders before he paints. My underside is painted different, but it no biggie to me.
