where can I get a clear license plate cover(T/Am) w/out paying $50!!
the one place I saw the clear plate cover for the 98-02 trans am is a rip off! think about it $50 bucks plus $6 bucks shipping for a piece of plastic? their making a killing...the same piece is only $20 bucks for a C5 corvette from west coast corvettes!! and their not known to be cheap!
Does anyone know who else may sell it for less? I just need a simple one? do not need the firebird etched in it
Thanks everyone!

guys; I hear but i', not trying ot be cheap..56 bucks??? for a clear cover, i should just keep the factory painted cover and not have the plate on , a ticket would cost me 40! lol...but seriously 56 bucks is just way too much..... how can a corvette one be 20 bucks and it has the exact same mounting points and screw holes.. I just wish it fit which it does not... Thought that someoen else would carry it and sell it for reasonable $$$$$////

That piece from Afterthoughts is a steal for $56.00, and if you don't want to pay it, then you don't have to. I bet if it was $40 people would still say it costs too much. If you want a clear cover, make one yourself from plexiglass. Then, you'll wish you had spent the $56.00

Are you kidding me? "Making a killing" is a little over the top. Seeing how there aren't a lot of people with the cover.
Someone had to take the initiative to design and have that piece made. $56 bucks will buy you a) a tank of gas (if that)
b) an oil change
c) a plate cover, custom for the car.
This must be your first mod....

Im with HRvat350, $56 is too much. I hated paying $100+ for my lid (I don't remember the exact price) but it was that much (or more) everywhere. How can a mass-produced pressed/formed plactic cost that much? Its just regular plastic too. I've seen much more complex items made of higher quality plastic for less. (Think about how complex shocks are to design/test/build and the materials used -- i know they arent platic -- in relation to their price.) I think the cost has nothing to do with materials or the manufacturing process but the volume and the market (relatively low volume and a market willing to pay the prices). BTW, I dont blame the venders (they just pass on manufacturing costs and a normal profit, usually). With current technology and materials costs, theese things shouldnt cost this much, but they do. In the end, I vote with my wallet and don't buy one. I don't mean to offend any vendors/sponsors.

um........maybe a dumb question, but are you talking about the plastic, see thru cover that goes over your license plate? cause i have a smoke one (nj cops suck) that covers my front license plate, i got it at a car wash place for $5....one year later still looks perfect...a know maybe u want one with the bird on it, but it's clear and u wont see it that well anyway.. just get a cheap one and get a bird decal if you want, put it on the cover...

VIP1! Glad to see someone agrees with me! We all have paid high $$$ for our mods, etc....but that 50 bucks for that and they could not even do free shipping???? but now need to make even more $$ by charging 6 bucks for that......It is a piece of plastic..VIP1 your right! Here is case and point...WEST COAST COVETTES sells the same type of cover for the C5 & C6 CORVETTES SINCE IT HAS THE SAME FRONT RECESSED PLATE
HOLDER AS THE TRANS AM DOES.... Now the corvette costs 45,000??? or so and west c corvete is not a cheap place to buy anything, they only carry the best stuff for your vette...IT COSTS $19.99 there! So it's CLEAR that it's how much money a vendor wants to make here and if they monopolize the product!...more power to them there just not going to see my 56 bucks!
