Default All this vanity tag talk..

...Made me go get one for my SS. It has more to do with my job than the car since I work with molten steel.

Well yes, but I was kinda jokeing.

The reason that the letters are filled in is because the previous owner of the car must have hit something and they patched the fiberglass and just filled in the letters. I discovered all this when I painted it gloss black for the berger mod.

If you want to trade I'll do it, but I wouldnt recomend it

I filled them in when I took the panel off to do the Berger mod. I'm no bodyman by any means but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

How did you go about doing this? Strip paint, bondo it up, re-paint? I'm very interested in the process involved.

I sanded the panel with some 320 grit really making sure the letter indentions got thoroughly scuffed. Applied some bondo, sanded, applied another coat of bondo, sanded, filled any small pits with some glaze/spot putty, sanded until surface was smooth and level. Sprayed some filler primer, sanded with some 800 grit then applied a couple coats of semigloss paint. Let dry overnight to be handled for reinstallation. All rattle cans and other products used bought from Wal-Mart.

Just what I was thinking. I get really nervous around sandpaper... maybe because I spend so much time REMOVING scratches and scuffs that I'd hate to create them! 320 is pretty rough, so I'm assuming that you sanded off the paint as well?

Naw, just knocked any and all shine off the paint to give the bondo and filler primer something to grab on to.
