Black Chrome

Does anybody know, is black chrome a powdercoating?
Or is it a dipping?

im pretty sure its a dip just like regular chrome

I believe there is also a paint like stuff that appears similiar to black chrome.

I've also heard of skops chroming the part and then spraying a mix of clear coat and black over the part to give it a similar look. Never seen it though.

Ive looked for black chrome. I really want it for the grill on my hood and the side vents on the car.

they actually do both powder coat and chrome i had an 03 r6 and had alot of stuff red chrome its sick but with black i was told that if its not extremly dark in color it is hard to tell the difference between black chrome and chrome

Here are a few ways/means of getting a black chrome look:

Motostorm Hyperblack paint: http://www.motostorm.com/gpage.html2.html

Alsa Black tinted candy clearcoat over regular chrome or polished metal:

These are just a few. Real black chrome is plated on the same way regular chrome is, they just change the bath solution somewhat by adding chromium oxide and barium oxide. Shops that can do it are few and far between so the cost is usually a bit higher than standard chrome.
