imo it would look ugly without the intercooler there...

take your bumper off and you will see....there is a large block of foam, than a steel bumper.....

it only looks good on the cars with an intercooler because its all 1 soild thing that you can see.

but its your car if you want to do it go for it

I think it would look pretty bad without an intercooler behind it too.
But if you decide to do it, post pics up so everyone can see.

Another vote for not a good mod without intercooler. It's cool because of it's purpose, not necessarily because it looks good!!

After having my front bumper off a few times, I don't see it being able to get anymore air to the radiator then what it already gets from below.

it only looks good w/ the intercooler, and even then the 2nd to last one is the only one that looks right

The only way it would be different and look good would be if you take this car:

Paint the inside area black like this car did it and put a custom billet grill where this guys FMIC is. I think that would look nice.

If you put nothing there...it will look like *** IMO.

If your just removing it then putting the grill back on, I don't think it'll look very different, it may mess with the strutural integrity of that area, (i.e. it might have a higher chance at bending/cracking the bottom if you scrape the front) I'd leave it man, black billet grill would look great.
