Pointless guage pod
Some people are getting all pissy on another forum because i called a guagepod rice because he has a water temp and a oil Press guage in the pod. Do you think its ricey to put a guage pod on for guages you already have?
Thanks, sorry im kindof in a ranting mood.

ehh, for me it would just be about the appearance of the pods, because i dont think I would use the gauges in them (I would never look at them). I would only get em if I had a supercharger, nos, or turbo....otherwise I think its all about the appearance of them

Well, oil pressure is pretty close but not exact, and water temp is a must because it's fairly common knowledge that the 99-02s are just dummy gauges that go to 210 degrees and sit. It only goes higher if you start to overheat. I have both of those waiting for install on my TA in spring. It's not rice to monitor vital systems for your car. Why do people install tachs/shift lights on there cars? Because the factory one SUCKS and lags behind. Water temp. See above. Fuel level? I've seen stories of people running out before the CHECK GAGES light comes on, and other driving 50 miles after it came on and needle was on E. Factory gauges are not that accurate. Go for the DIRECT connection if you need to. If that means bypassing or adding gauges you already have, I'm all for it.
EDIT - Elaborate if you are talking about a LS1 or something else. If it's not on a LS1, it's :

Signs of ignorance are calling other people "rice" when you yourself don't have all the information... Hell,

I usually dont get into these kinda arguments... but just as sweetbone said theres reasons to have those gauges. I have been thinking of getting the same gauges just because the stockers arent accurate... I wouldnt do a gauge pod though, Id instead mount them in the TA airvents.
There are PLENTY of memebers on here that have one of or both of the gauges mentioned...

Not really considering our gauges for the most part suck and are not accurate. At least '99 and up.
My Autometer tach is at 2000 before the stocker is at 1500.

No thats just stupid to call it rice. Now you're saying anything you improve upon over stock is rice because you already have the same part. So aftermarket shifters are rice, wheels are rice, heads and cam are rice.
The stock gauges just suck, all of them.

I plan on using a water temp and oil temp gauge. There are plenty on this site that use an aftermarket water temp gauge, the stocker just dosent cut it. Most the people who are calling it rice have a car thats still in the 12' or 13's anyways.

I'm pretty sure domestics were mounting alternate gauges in their cars long before imports hit the scene.
If anything, the ricers need a term for when they do something 'domestic' to their cars.
How can it be ricer if domestics were doing it first?

I personally like the overall look of my gauges. Also like my shift light in the pillar. Guess thats rice also. Currently my pillar has Water Temp, Oil Temp, & Oil Pressure. I got all these after reading about how crappy the stock units are.
Now that I got a nitrous kit goin in, I'm sellin my current gauges & goin with the Digital Dynotune gauges in Nitrous Pressure, LC-1 Wideband & Fuel Pressure.
