I've seen the SS spoiler/hatch in carbon fiber. It looked nice. There was no LED though or center spoiler supports, just a big gap. Definately for someone who wanted to be different than stock. The only thing I would worry about would be hood fitment. There are no pictures of it on a car and they actually show 2 different hoods. One is a stock looking SS style and the other is a larger scooped ZL1 style hood. ANyone know of any on carpics somewhere?

^^^ I can guarantee that it doesn't save weight. Didn't u read my reply?
What most aftermarket companies do is the make the hood from fiberglass and add a layer of carbon fiber ontop to make it look like a carbon fiber hood. If it were to be a full carbon fiber hood that price would most likly be doubled if not trippeled. And since our stock ss hoods are fiberglass its not going to save any weight at all.

bump to what titus said. It would be for appearance purposes only. It wouldn't weigh significantly less or significantly more for that matter. If they made the entire hood out of carbon fiber nobody could afford it.

Just a FYI, VFN fiberglass WS6 hoods weigh about 28-30 pounds, and their carbon fiber WS6 hoods weigh about 5-10 pounds. Steel hoods weigh about 80 pounds, so the weight savings is great. While I realize im speaking of a WS6 hood, I'm just using them for the example cause I couldn't compare a SS hood.

And just so you all know, you can buy any hood VFN sells in carbon fiber. So instead of getting a low quality ebay hood, you can get a top notch, high quality hood from VFN.

VFN ftw

IMO the only thing you can do to make a Z28 ricey is to be born in China.

i was about lay into you... then saw you said it was sarcasim.. nice man.. i wanna see pictures of your car.. work in progress or anything..

on a side note.. i think it would look pretty good if you painted the hood but left the carbon fiber showing like a manta style..

Well, say what you want to say, but I bought one a few weeks ago. My car was in an accident, and after spending some time on the phone with Octane motorsports, I decided to order one. My car doesn't go into the shop until this Friday, so I haven't yet test-fitted, but the measurements are all right, and it sure looks pretty! I'm painting the manta pattern on it, or shall I say not painting it on... I'm completely against a unpainted CF hood on any color other than black, but I do think that CF looks good... I'll be posting pics as soon as I get some, I'll probably snap some Friday when I take the car in, just to demonstrate/check fitment. As far as I know, there isn't anyone on any of the online forums that has this yet, so it'll be helpful to give people some idea of the result. Now please, limit your bashing, if you think this hood makes my car rice, let's go square it off at the strip.

No it is not, mine is metal. If yours is fiberglass, it is not the factory hood.
I know that mine is STOCK.

Right there it says SLP hoods are constructed of hand laid fiberglass.

...sorry Anywho, I think the CF manta would look pretty nice. I understand the side of those who think CF is ricey. But I say it is ricey only if done without taste. Paint all the CF and don't tell anybody that it's a couple hundred pounds lighter. That's a sleeper. But, this is the same site where many people flame you for not having spent 1,000+ on a "SLP CME" Do your thing man, to hell with the rest.

Another FYI, SLP Fiberglass hoods are heavier than after-market fiberglass hoods. Armando from VFN explained to me why, but I forgot...

VFN does not make carbon fiber components at this time. I tried to order a hood from them a month or so back and they will not make them due to the carbon fiber shortage. I offered to send them enough material and they still would not do it. Told me they are not restocking the resins and so forth needed to do the CF work until more CF is available. Straight from them.
